    Kibler's next gun?

I read somewhere on the Kibler's site that one of the guns they are considering to make in the future is a NW Trade gun. Does anyone close to the source know anything about this? In his blog, Jim wrote: "The Next Kit The next kit, while not officially in the works yet, should be started in...

I bought this wild bench gun...

Is this an East Coast thing? I'm part of a weekly bench rest match at our local club, and a big club in a nearby city has them every week too. Of course, as far as ML goes I don't think I've ever seen a bench rest match around here. It's all done standing.

I bought this wild bench gun...

This might help. Much like the modern stance. Perhaps the stance originated with schuetzen rifles?

I bought this wild bench gun...

Ethan of "I Love Muzzleloading" just happened to post a video yesterday about a schuetzen rifle:

I bought this wild bench gun...

The American Percussion Schuetzen Rifle "The waves of Germanic immigration during the 1840's and 1850's deposited upon our shores a number of highly talented gunsmiths. In addition to their normal work, these artisans continued to produce a nearly unadulterated style of muzzle-loading...

What kind of stuff do you all read?

It's not as bad as you think. It's worse. Andrew Bustamante has published a book called EVERYDAY ESPIONAGE based on his career in the CIA. He did a long interview with Shawn Ryan that might blow your mind.

WANTED No more WANTED postings by me

In my experience this is about as safe a place to buy and sell as anywhere on the web. FB marketplace is infested with scammers, but look at the guy who invented FB. He's the biggest scammer of all. In all things, especially nowadays, caveat emptor.

What kind of stuff do you all read?

For those interested in Hawken rifles, Max McCoy's Ghost Rifle novels are great. If you liked the Patrick O'Brian series or Bernard Cornwall's Sharp series you would probably like Allan Mallinson's Matthew Hervey series. It's more like O'Brian, only it has to do with British Napoleonic...

Excellent video and podcast from "I Love Muzzleloading"

Ethan of "I Love Muzzleloading" fame just posted a very interesting lecture on YouTube about the current state of BP and living history, and what we could do to get more people interested in it. This young man consistently impresses with his breadth of knowledge, open mindedness and generosity...

    Salmon Leather

Here are few wallets I made from wolf fish skin, which I bought from fiskurleather.com. There is a fish tannery in Iceland that he sources the skins from. US Fish & Game regulations make it very expensive to import these things. I thought their only purpose was to roll up on legal fishermen...

14" pull? That seems fairly long. I'm six feet two inches tall and that would be long for me. Am I missing something?

    Cabela's chaps my hide.

Stores take on the personality of the owners. If the owner is mean and nasty, the lowliest clerk will probably be mean and nasty if they don't have a sense of self worth and self respect. I've noticed there are a lot of old guys, like me, working behind the counter at these stores. We have...

    So many idiots on YouTube

There are a few things that set Britishmuzzleloaders, Duelist 1954, Ilovemuzzleloading and Capandball apart from the rest: good to great production, valuable information, lots of smoke, and generosity. No one making ML videos compares to some of the dudes making videos about unmentionables...

    Overpriced sellers

Amazon and Costco have taught the masses that they can get whatever they want at a discount. People don't realize they have gamed the system and have incredible advantages small retailers can only imagine. Some of these advantages are even legal (how long has it been since antitrust laws were...

    How to “harden” leather?

Weaver sells something call "Leather Firmer", but I've never used it. Coating the flesh side of chrome tan with Resolene, Barge Cement (let it dry thoroughly), or latex body paint will also make it firmer, but not hard. I've never tried it, but you could glue 2-3 oz veg tan to the flesh side...

    Cabela's Hawken by Investarms

There's an interesting YouTube video posted by "I love muzzleloading" about the Investarms Hawken:

    How to “harden” leather?

The only way that I know of to make chrome tan hard is to glue to celastic fiber that has been molded into shape first, like a toe counter on a shoe.

    Keeping Muzzleloading Alive

In our local club there are a dozen or so kids who regularly show up to shoot shotguns, handguns and .22 target rifles. Granted, we are officially rural, although there are more and more Telsas on the roads every day. I don't see many of the problems with kids described above. If you asked...

    How to “harden” leather?

Toes and counters on shoes are stiffened with different kinds of materials. Sometimes it's veg tanned leather under the chrome tanned, but these days solvent activated celastic material is used. You get a much harder finished product if you soak the leather, then let the moisture permeate the...
