    P caps in Mattoon IL

I walked through Dunham's for the first time today and they have percussion caps for $11.99 on the shelf in case anyone in central IL needs them. I have plenty so I left them there for you fine folks!

    One side or two

My theory is that if you grease just the outside of the patch when it squeezes into the bore it squeezes it through to the other side as well.

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

Never been a problem for me, the little bit of moisture in your breath keeps the fouling soft.

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

Ok boys and girls here is the long winded (not really) version. When I first started back in the 70's the big event at our club was the Seneca run, the winner was revered and lauded continuously all year and it was something I strove mightily to win. For those that do not know it was a timed...

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

How about because with some experimentation it is not needed?

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

I was taught to blow down the barrel back in the 70's when I first started, every one of my mentors did it. I kept doing it when I got heavily into BPCRS albeit through a blow tube, somewhere in the last few years there was a switch by some afraid they would blow their face off so they wanted...

    New Frizzen needed?

I have frizzens that make that one look new, adjust your flint angle and protrusion and you can change how and where it strikes the frizzen.

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

It is not an exact mix 40-60, 50-50, 60-40, Personally I use a spit patch 90% of the time but I did try some Dawn and water and it worked great and clean up was super easy, I usually do not fool with it cause spit is just so easy and it works. If you try the Dawn and water steal a little...

What do you guys lube your C&B revolvers with?

And made a mess all over the gun!

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

If I was a ML bench shooter shooting a heavy bench gun................ I might use Dutch's method But I am not, read olskool and mulebrains posts again, and again until it sinks in, people over complicate things.

If the hammer is not aligned properly with the nipple it is an issue that needs addressed.

Newbie Looking for Advice on Failed Ignition of Main Charge

It is all relative....the cost of a cap versus possibly having a contaminated load that will not go off.... Of course, that is coming from someone who doesn't shoot percussion very much and has close to 2,000 caps on the shelf.;)

Newbie Looking for Advice on Failed Ignition of Main Charge

Lots of percussion shooters put a cap on their unloaded gun and pointing the barrel at some grass or leaves that are close set it off, if the leaves/grass move from the burst then the fire channel is clear and dry and you should have no problems. Flintlocks, put a charge down the barrel with a...

Anyone ever hunt with a handgonne?

I used to hunt squirrels with a handgun, an unmentionable in a small very popular rimfire caliber. Always thought using a shotgun for squirrels was cheating.

    How many....

I tried this a few times with a greased wad under the patched ball and accuracy was worsened. I found some of the remnants down range and in some instances the wad was stuck to the patch and my theory is that it steered the ball like a badminton bird. If I ever try it again it will be with dry...

Asking for help with a Rifle Shoppe Baker Rifle: groups at 50 yards have become dreadful.

A couple of things... Recoil starts at the moment that the bullet starts to move, that is a fact, The reason you can still have an accurate shooting gun with a heavy bullet is consistency, consistency, consistency. From consistency in the exact same load with the exact same bullet weight time...

Best product to clean neglected Thompson Center Hawken 50 Cal

Your going to get a lot of answers based on supposition because others do not know what the issue is. Is it the wood, is it the metal, inside the bore, just the finish..... I am going to ASSUME your just worried about the bore (it's just a TC) and recommend a cheap bore scope from Amazon some...
