Choosing a blank for my Woodsrunner kit

Yup, several things to consider in a piece of wood for stock blank. Moisture content is important, grain structure especially through the wrist portion is another. The blank should be clear of any pith or sap wood along with any checking or knots. It's your wood and your choice. It's hard to...

    Maui axis deer hunt

I don't want to be a debbie downer but you really need to research shipping gunpowder/black powder as an indvidual. You can get yourself into some trouble. You might want to purchase the FFF through a dealer and have them ship it to Hawaii if it's even possible. Airlines forbid black powder on...

    Maui axis deer hunt

This is an important point. The OP should get with the outfitter on this. Axis meat is very good and worth bringing back. Have always purchased a ice chest locally, try to hard freeze the meat and ship back as extra bagage.

    Flinching?

It's just me but I would try adjusting the sights to move the impact. Looking at the group of shots it's obviously shooting high and to the right. If that group is caused from flinching, you are flinching consistently.

JB Weld on oversized wood holes....??

Using a fine threaded wood screw in hardwood such as maple will go a long way too.

    WANTED What’s available left handed

Nothing like flame and hot gases shooting across your face with a flinter just inches away, similar to shooting a AR with gases, debris and brass moving across your face. Handguns fired at arm's length are way different.

    Help with identifying a lock.

Thanks for the replies. @54ball, my buddies family lives in Tennessee. That's where he got them from. The other 3 guns are from 1970's and are percussions so I figured the flint was from the same period. Looking to change the butt plate, patchbox, trigger guard, thimbles and nose cap to steel...

    Help with identifying a lock.

Brand new to black powder shooting and recently bought a small group of rifles from a friend. One is a .40 cal flintlock with J Garner engraved on top in front of the breech. That’s all I have found. I am wanting to learn more about this gun and searched here and the web some. I found a phone...

Surefire way to drill a horn spout?

I received a horn for Christmas from my wife. She bought it from muzzleloaders.com. I went to fill it the other day and it wouldn't take but a few grains of powder. Seems the hole wasn't drilled deep enough. Well I tried my hand at it and the hole that was in it wasn't center and I quickly...

    Everything .40 Cal. Muzzleloader

The weather is better, supposed to be in the mid 70’s today after being in the teens the last several days. I recently got into black powder guns and acquired this .40 cal and hopefully will shoot a few balls through her later. Only have 3 and 4F powder along with some Hornady rb’s to try out.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I made a riser block and an aperture for a Lyman SML peep sight I recently purchased here. It’s mounted on a left handed GPR. I also bought a 17A front globe. Found it ok for target but it didn’t do much for letting light in for hunting. Rigged up piece of an arrow nock to raise the factory...

    New rifle

If the caliber isn't marked on the barrel you should get a pair of calipers and measure it. If you have balls of known size you can drop them in the bore to get a size also.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

While looking at that particular rifle I noticed that the stamping was on the right side vs mine which is a .45 cal. made in USA and on he left hand side. My rear sight is different too.

    Simple question…..

I am brand new to flintlocks and black powder shooting. The simple answer in my way of thinking is no that they are not. If they were reliable in the rain the question of whether or not they were reliable wouldn't need to be brought up.

    2024 Turkey Hunting

Been seeing lots of birds while deer hunting in South Texas. Groups of 30,40,50 or more. Jakes are strutting and fighting with others a lot. Hopefully they are still here in my pasture come match. I use to love hunting them in the spring ewith archery or shotgun. I just started muzzle loading...

    CVA Mountain Rifle questions

I am a newbie to black powder shooting. I recently acquired a early model CVA mountain rifle in a small collection I bought so I am learning about them. What I am finding out is that they seem to be fairly popular still to this day. After reading this post there are many opinions on what is...
