Lee 36 caliber conicals for Pietta 1851 ?

Works very well.... Only problem that I have comes from pressure casting. This technique can cause a little flash(finning) to form at the base of the bullet. Slowly fill, ladle etc. Keep your melt temp down below 650 and these cast great and shoot better.

    Successful Stalk

Excellent buck, he'll make super mount. So fun to read your story too! Flintlocks sure do enrich the experience of hunting don't they.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Zinc will ruin your alloy. Bullets can just crumble or break as they cool. Zinc's will often have a distinct shape, and coating...."Zn" is stamped on a lot of them. Locate a weight marked Zn and notice its shape and color, throw out any weight that looks the same. The flat strips with the...

Pietta 1858 New Army revolver and conical sizing

You'll want a cap&ball specific conical bullet for your revolver. "Eras Gone" makes reproduction conical molds that are heeled to load in C&B revolvers. They also make wonderful paper cartridges. Lee also makes a specific conical designed for C&B revolvers. A 450-200R I believe (?) The...

Flintlock accuracy and need help finding load

Looking good! My greatest shooting improvements have come from shooting our monthly postal matches. Gets you out every month shooting and it's a lot of fun. Lots of folks with thousands of posts of advice for others are still working through that same can of ffffg bought 1982..... let's get out...

    Improving velocity consistency

Order some real Swiss 3fff black powder if you want to see your accuracy and velocity ES at there best. 777 will work in a pinch, but it is no comparison to "real" powder. If you can afford an elk hunt, you owe it to yourself to enjoy "real" gunpowder.

Flintlock accuracy and need help finding load

I live about 5 hours north. Have an available guest cabin, and a full, big game woods-walk course. You'll have a great weekend(!)....even if you're still flinching when you leave.😁 https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/bridger-mountain-men-shoot.151978/ Here's a few pics from the past.

Opinions on Pietta 1851 Confederate Navy revolver?

The 36cal, 1851 London model Uberti, has long been spoken of as being finished to a higher level....not sure if that is true or not, but out of 20 open-top Colts it is the "only" one that shot perfectly out of the box. (An yes the arbor is short on it too.) Every Remington1858 that I have...

    About your hunting rifles

My companion in the mountains and forests is a 58cal Colonial. She shoots Great! 280gr roundball and 45gr of any powder for paper shooting. 60gr for Woods-walks. And 110gr of 3fff yields 1850fps for Elk hunting. Found this set of big elk sheds this spring, laying just as they are pictured.

    36 caliber deer hunting

36cal rifle is about twice the power of a 22lr.. which is crazy toxic on deer! Keep your distances reasonable and you're shot angle square and you'll be plenty well served with a 36 rifle.

    KIBLER WOODRUNNER TALL SITE

The closer the sights are to the barrel, the faster mirage will begin to distort your sight picture as the barrel heats up. So on a multiple shot woodswalk match, a taller sight will usually give you an "edge". Unless you're trying to participate in novelty events, like splitting horizontal...

Offhand accuracy with flintlock pistols ?

Sounds like with skills like that you had better start competing in our monthly Forum match! It's fun to watch your targets improve after several months of participating. A Flintlock pistol seems to be the hardest marksmanship genre to master...

    Ballistol-based lube?

Ballistol stinks way to much to consider for hunting. Use water soluble oil instead. About 5:1 or 7:1 parts h2o to oil.
