New Builder - Kibler Colonial Long Rifle Kit

Thank you Jim! And actually sir I wouldn't mind that job. Your kits are so nicely done that my time spent shining them up is super enjoyable and rewarding. Winter stays long this high! I shined up my brother's rifle with some Fire-Bluing.

New Builder - Kibler Colonial Long Rifle Kit

After lots of hours sanding with detail Sanders and sandpaper wrapped around little files, the brass hardware from your kit will be ready. Lots of the coping details will be lost during the heavy filing required to mate the wood to metal, remove the gates, and to clean everything up from the...

New Builder - Kibler Colonial Long Rifle Kit

There is a thread clean-out tap included with your parts kit... just one more little thing that makes Jim's kits great! When you have your lock installed, put one of those squeeze clamps across the lock to lock plate and use the tap it to perfectly align the threads with the holes in your...

Preliminary accuracy results with the Thumper Carbines

Yes that's a great calculator! Thank you for sharing it. I use 2ff Olde Eynsford, and the calculator using 3fff Swiss is within a few feet a second of the loads that I've Chronographed with my 58 Colonial and a round ball.

Woodsrunner kit arrived today, kind of.

Going to have to start shipping them in a locked steel box that we can return the Kibler's... with the key mailed to us separately. I sure hope Jim has a chance to build me a Colonial Pistol kit before he's driven completely insane... it'll certainly be less headache for him to ship the pistol...

    Ok question on round balls

Sure it did... or the rifling wouldn't be obturated into it. It is certainly interesting anyway. I usually shoot wheel weights and that doesn't happen from the ones I've recovered in snow. The one pictured is pure lead, and was shot through a tree, I should go shoot some pure lead balls into...

    Poor follow through on hangfire

Every caplock brought to our club does that for the first round or two of a match... at about shot 20, most flintlock guys go through the same thing. Lol

    Ok question on round balls

Keep in mind that lead balls can become cylinders before they leave a barrel. Look at this recovered .570 ball, and notice that it fully obturated to fill rifling grooves, as well as the flat back. Hornady .570, .017 ticking, Neatsfoot oil 100gr 2ff Goex OE 1820fps Colonial .582 bore/.604 groove

.. you might want to fact-check that.;)

First time flintlock shooting with my Woodsrunner

At the time , there was a Covid purchase limit of 3 flints max, per kit, from Kibler. And at $4 a flint, I felt like I seriously applied myself to to do everything correctly... especially after shattering so many in a row. Black English and the old white Rich Pierce chert seem to last forever...

First time flintlock shooting with my Woodsrunner

When it comes to French Ambers, my Colonial is a bit of a Rock-Crusher too. When we were being rationed flints, I ordered as many as Jim would sell me with my rifle kits.. Crushed 5 right in a row! They all broke the same place (or worse) as the one you pictured, within three strikes. This one...

    March 2023 Postal Target

I got home from our winter Woods-Walk match Sunday. Refilled my horn and ball bag and headed up the creek to shoot the postal match. My wife just looked at that me like, "Are you seriously going shooting again?" Standing behind the 58colonial all day makes me think maybe I need to buy a...

    March 2023 Postal Target

I wonder how many members print these targets and shoot them.... but then they don't post pictures after seeing some of the Fantastic groups you folks post. Tell me some of you must have iron backbones!😁

Card Splitting or Ball Splitting Handicaps?

We shoot at the center of a blank paper-plate at the start of every match as a tiebreaker. Then any time 2 people tie, they pull out their paper plates and see who really won.

Card Splitting or Ball Splitting Handicaps?

The challenge to accurately manage the concussion and recoil, provided by the big calibers, seems to about level the playing field. After shooting a 58 Colonial all day, a SMR .40 with a set trigger, almost feels like cheating. Hahaha

    February 2023 Postal Match

Those little circles were dancing! Seemed like the ferris wheel was turned on. Thank you for putting these together Gary and to everybody that posted. (I left my target out the shop last night so I didn't get it posted till this morning)

    Sharps with loose powder

I tried it and will Never do it again! It's an IAB with a floating plate, powder got between the breech face and the plate didn't seal. It burned the hell out of me💥🔥
