    I use phosphoric acid. It gives a somewhat rust resistant finish and results in a nice antique grey.

    Heptagonal (7-sided) bore muzzleloader by C. Bird - Question

    I think the bore is cut with seven grooves and the muzzle just looks heptagonal from wear/funneling and the small caliber.

    Front sight is backwards and rear is too far aft. You can build several different styles around that barrel. Do some research. ALR Museum is a good place to start.
