Kibler has announced a Hawken Kit in the works.

Yes but when was the caplock first made? Some state they were not available prior to 1840. Were the little caps available in the fur trapping region prior to 1850?

Kibler has announced a Hawken Kit in the works.

It seems that the Hawken brothers set up shop as the trapper era was ending. There could have been one at the last rendezvous? Those guys mentioned bought the guns later in life. I was given a TC and have assembled a Lyman kit for someone. Why do they weigh so much? : - the hooked breach; -...

    Don't Carve That Stock!

An interesting carved stock helps you wait more patiently for the deer. Even if it is a single straight line on the cheek piece.

What load do y'all like for .40 at 50 yards?

I use 27.5 Swiss grains at 50 yards. .015 patch .389 cast ball. I double it to 55 grns and it is on at 82 yards. I don’t get much of a change of impact from 25 to 50.

    Kibler's next gun?

I think that movie made the Hawken popular. They weigh a lot. I think the hook breech and keys are cool but I don’t crave one. If they have a fast twist option( I don’t think they will) And I had a longer range to shoot at maybe. However, I am sure I will put one or two together for friends. I...

    Old eyes and iron sights

Regarding the front bead, I think it is advantageous For shooting flying. One must avoid looking directly at it and concentrate totally on the target. I have never observed a target shooter remove the bead Or a serious bird shooter remove the bead.

    Don't Carve That Stock!

Good, get yer old carcass in it and drive to Texas. I am sure you could drum up some other lost souls to take a carving class and likely you can supplement your other profession of demonic possession, not the exorcism but the initial action.
