To much is made of short arbors

I don’t normally go in for opinion posts but when in Rome. My question to you is this, do you really want to carry around some silly feeler gauge or some other type of gauge? Sure, maybe it works but what happens when you go to your property or the range or wherever, and guess what I forgot my...

    First range trip with Woodsrunner

Slow twist seems to require quite a bit of power to shoot, I shoot 90gr of 3f in my colonial in 58. I also have a very hungry hawken with a 1-72 twist in 54. It doesn’t start shooting until north of 100 and the load it now shoots is 120gr of 3f. Makes an awful lot of racket with that much powder...

    Who made this lock??

Thank you for that info! I was in a box of stuff that I was gifted and looked interesting. Thought that if I ever build a gun this might be neat to put in it! I did not know that siler was a maker whenever I would read or hear siler it was always a lock that looked like the one I posted I was...

    Who made this lock??

Yes sir I would agree with that, but looking for who built the lock? A siler to my understanding (perhaps I’m wrong??) is a style not who made it seems most everyone makes a siler lock Davis,L&R, etc but not sure who made this one. That’s why I posted pics of the “makers mark” on the inside of...

    Who made this lock??

Looking to see if I can figure out who made the percussion lock. It’s a modern lock that I was given along with a boatload of other parts and building tools this weekend by my wife’s grandpa who used to build. Any help would be appreciated!

    SOLD Steve Zihn 54 hawken

Well can’t keep them all! This is a stunning Steve zihn 54 hawken that I have owned for a bit over a year. It is an excellent shooter! Barrel is 33” 15/16 green mountain. LOP is just at 14”. Stock profile makes this a very comfortable shooter as the crescent is not as severe allowing a more...

    Kibler SMR first shots, WOW!

Thank you much! That’s a 32 kibler, one of the old kits with the 46” barrel and boy she is a good shooter. The horn was a cheap junker I picked up along the road and decided to play around with. I think it turned out OK for my first attempt. It is a small horn so I use it with the 32.

    Point of impact shift.

Well, I grabbed the rifle and some 535s and 530s it appears the 530s are too small with my patches. .018 pillow ticking. The 535s have a nice patch imprint all the way around and the 530s do not. Here are some pics of my balls! (Couldn’t resist) 😂. The lighter ball is the 530. Guess I’ll start...

    Point of impact shift.

@Greenjoytj thank you that is a very thorough explanation and I never considered that! Also a very good idea with the brass rod! As it so happens I have a .535 RB mold!

    Point of impact shift.

Hey guys, I maybe should have clarified. The rifle has been sighted in. And zeroed with the above mentioned load @75 yards. This is my hunting rifle and that is why I zeroed at 75. The zero is not a problem and I know what the rifle does with the prescribed load. What I’m saying is that I have...
