    16th century stock wood suggestions?

Beech would also be a good choice, and likely willow - makes good cricket bats anyway. The guns I just looked at in Graz did not tell me their woods. The older and less expensive ones were pretty much black with age.

Artillery in the Styrian Armoury (16th-17thC)

As requested by Eisenhammer, the guns and mortars I photographed in the Styrian Armoury in Graz, Austria. This armoury is brilliantly preserved with racks of all kinds of arms of the period, with accessories. However many of the cannon were transported to another distant city when invasion...

    Pre-flintlock heaven

I cant post all I have, not enough hours in the day and the moderators will not like it. Pick something and ask for it, and I will post what I have like I tried in the cannon forum :idunno: . In general I tried to get in-the-round pics of what I was interested in, the pre-flintlock stuff.

    Pre-flintlock heaven

Yes, it is the Styrian Armory, the Landeszeughaus in Graz, Austria. Yes, I did take pics of the artillery and mortars. I also had a torch to look down bores and got some pics. Unfortunately it was handheld in very low light, so a lot of photos are shaky. Are you also interested in wall guns...

    wheel lock suppliers?

Blackley have an excellent historic reputation. One of their wheellocks was assembled by a forum member here about 2007. They are reportedly much more timely than TRS. :rotf:

    Lock Maintainance

I have taken my lock apart several times when the tumbler notches chipped off. When I bought the rifle the lock was also incorrectlyreassembled and didn't work right. Otherwise - never disassembled one for cleaning.

How soon to clean fired gun?

Not gutsy, I just allowed it to get away. Been a busy few weeks. I am doing a series study on Integrity, and  . Yes, humidity was low - it was rainy for a while but mostly very cold (by Australian standards). But I KNOW now that swabbing and leaving with my wet patch lube (water +...

Whats guns are on YOUR wish list?

Did you make the Australian Nationals at Easter? Actually the drop test was around long before the Port Arthur Massacre and the new gun laws, but quite a few years after it they started requiring it for kit guns at importation. You are perfectly able to import barrels, locks, furniture and...

How soon to clean fired gun?

If I have to get home and blast off for church or whatever social event, I try to clean partially with wet patches and stuff before I leave the shooting point. If its left, rusting appears to start immediately with brown patches coming out a few hours later. HOWEVER last time I shot, I thought...

    cva trigger problem

Remember the damage a tight tang screw can do - leading to negligent discharges. I had two before I figured and fixed it the first time, and two more a year and a half later. Then I fixed it properly with inset hardwood blocks to hold . The CVA generally has a very small timber bearing area at...

    Reliability of long loaded C&Bs

The Adams Revolver (1851) was initially sold with instructions and molds for a greased felt wad retained on a spike cast on the ball. The idea was to thumb the ball plus wad into the cylinder, but in practice the balls started out when other chambers were fired so they had to make it tighter...
