    King George III Canon

A 22" iron gun with .54 bore will be way heavy, right? Or is the tube so heavy anyway that the liner won't make much difference? I would love one myself, but imagine you would need a fair price to make them.

New lock for Pedersoli Charles Moore 45

I had a few problems with my Pedersoli Charles Moore 45 Percussion/ switch barrel and lock to 44 flint. I had just got the set trigger working, after using it for a few years as plain trigger, when the main set trigger spring broke. It was rusted. Then I bought a spare and while I was at it a...

    Rampart gun

There are a lot of guns in the museums and especially the Landeszeughaus in Graz which have hooks below the barrels (Hakenbuchse-hackbutts?)and later ones have a pin for trunnion use near the balance point. One is mounted in a pintle on a tripod which leads me t think they may have been 2-man...

    Nipple vent size

I love my Uberti 1858 Rem, but people nearby are getting a facefull of powder spit from the gun when I shoot it. I also was developing quite a callous in the hairy side of my trigger finger which I later realised came from that spit. I am using RWS no 1075 (like No 11) caps, 21gn PPP Wano...

    Buttstock angle

More likely the intention was that the shooter maintain an 'aristocratic posture' with head held high. The gun plainly is not a military type, and was made in the same period that German wheellocks had cheek stocks so the user did not hunch over them in the way a straight stock might enforce.

    Buttstock angle

It looks good in profile. Maybe that was all it took to sell, like today's tacticool vs 1950s Dunlap classic remodeled sporters. Everybody wants to try something new. Remember, if someone gave the King one you can bet a dozen or a hundred orders were placed all over for that new look the King...

    No particular "school" builds

I have pics of a long rifle built by a teenager in Australia who had seen books and thats ALL. It must be more than forty years old now. Such a lot of effort but he had never seen a real one, just a pic in a book. The barrel, I was told, was originally a T-Model steering column.

Single set trigger - how early?

The Gunsmith of Grenville County has a nice discussion of single set triggers and making them, but says only one or two he was aware of were used on American long rifles. Over on the FB Matchlock and Wheellock group, someone is asking when the first single set triggers were used. His friend, a...

    1851 / 1860 Interchange

I suggest polishing to get rid of lacquer, then getting it nice and dirty, holstering, cleaning, shooting, cleaning. Repeat until the colour pleases you, then start using it.

    Pyrites

I am constantly keeping an eye out to score usable pyrite for wheellocks, especially if it could be a reliable supply to share. I work in a mine that has almost good enough but not quite pyrite cubes - can't get it liberated in a size that is big enough to use. The most promising I have are 1/2"...

    Matchlock Pistols did they exist?

False positive! Bolek says its a petronel, not a pistol. Maybe someone can post the cast-zinc drugstore 'matchlock pistol' again?

    Matchlock Pistols did they exist?

Like this? Modern replica Japanese one, handmade I dont think ML Forum likes us to link other forums, but on Facebook search for the group Matchlock and Wheellock Guns and join. A few days ago someone posted several pictures of a breechloading matchlock pistol from a museum near Coburg. I am...

    Flintlock Target Pistol

I have the Charles Moore with flint smoothbore and percussion rifled barrel/lock combos. Mine have a fixed tang; do others have hooked breech? I really like it, but am not a good shot with the flint/smooth as I am only getting experience with flint. It works best with Swiss powder. I got some...

    Pat 1858 Enfield Paper Cartridges

Well I was there, but late after everyone left, to try out my 'new' PH 1858 that I bought from an Adelaide member. First five off the bench into 9 and 10 rings at 50, then first five after I figured out the sight picture at 100 gave three 9s and two sevens. It is a pearler, I may have to learn...
