    Doc Help: Landsknecht Matchlock Pistol?

Squire Robin, have you posted those before? I would greatly love to see them.

    Doc Help: Landsknecht Matchlock Pistol?

Ah, the cast zinc bar-decorator pistol. I have one that my now-gone father gave me, and despite its falling apart I treasure it.

Research? My research is on other things right now. But tell us: why is this about landsknechts, not say Swedish mercenaries or Roundhead gunnery sergeants?

    buying used rifles online? where?

If there are clubs in your region that shoot BP, wander along. Many members will have one or two for sale 'if someone asks'. Clubs often have a notice board with For Sale posts, and may also have emailed 'trading post' listings. Usually there will be a BP collector/enthusiast somewhere in the...

    Doc Help: Landsknecht Matchlock Pistol?

jet car willy, I am no kind of real expert, just another keyboard warrior who reads a lot and travels when he can. I apologise that I seem negative to you. What do I think your pistol is? Don't know. I had an opinion on the Brescian, but this one looks as you say like a banana-lockplate...

    Doc Help: Landsknecht Matchlock Pistol?

Thanks Zonie. Now I have to say that I still haven't seen any authenticated Euro matchlock pistols, but I have seen some very, very wishful reasoning. I have since I joined this forum been privileged to visit the armoury at Graz, zastava Konipiste, Nelahozeves, the Military Museum in Istanbul...

    Doc Help: Landsknecht Matchlock Pistol?

That is clearly a Brescian wheellock pistol with a retrofitted matchlock. My guess it was done for a 19th century decorator, with a genuine pistol missing its lock.

I spent a very good couple of hours reading at your link. Thank you. For those that want to know before they click, it has old weapon drills and other resources and in particular has a resource on siege warfare, the design and history of fortifications in the age of cannon. Bastions, glacis...

Who knows anything about this naval cannon?

I think its a decorator cannon. Don't start trying to smooth it up the work will be really a lot if its cast iron and it might end up worse looking. Don't try shooting it for real but it will probably be safe with small blank charges. One pair or both of the wheels is probably a replacement...

    Medieval artillery.

There are some amazing posts at this place: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=14460 Many of the threads drift a bit and have medieval cannon and gonnes.

    Japanese Matchlock Details

Bending brass should be done cold, with annealing between if it is hard. Brass is I recall 'hot-short' which means it breaks freely when bent hot. Of course, your alloy could be quite different to the usual modern brasses in western countries. If you are planning to fire it, do consider the...

    Japanese Matchlock Details

Darn that is a nice gun. I don't claim expertise, but that long throw looks way wrong. Either a buyer ordered it that way to reduce risk of sparks prejudging a situation, or that serpentine was made to be used somewhere else. Perhaps the owner liked to hold it with his thumb instead of the sear.
