    Tent Decision help

I am about to turn 70 years old. I have always slept on the ground until last year. I did buy a small cot and I cover it with Hudson Bay blankets to disguise it. I agree with you, sleeping on a cot is MUCH more comfortable than sleeping on the ground.

Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

I disagree. People do waste powder by using more than needed to do a specific job. When powder is cheap and plentiful that may not be an issue. When it is expensive and/or scarce we need to be thriftier with it.

Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

That goes along with the frontier adage, use the smallest caliber and the smallest powder that will still do the job. Do not waste any powder or shot when it was hard to replace.

Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

The powder is usually compressed. They actually did use 70 grains in the old days. Some people utilize a drop tube, which helps compress the powder in the casing.

Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

To sum up what you have written, if it works for you then use it. I had a customer tell me his scope is mounted slightly canted to the right because of the way he holds his rifle. Due to an injury to his hand he can't hold his rifle in a traditional way. Some people might call him a fool for...

Does anyone even do this anymore?

I have always snapped a cap to ensure the channel is clear. As was stated earlier, I would rather use a cap for this than have to pull a ball due to a clogged channel.

    Pre ignition

It was banned before I joined the club. I was never given the reason. Most other places I shoot have banned it or deeply frown upon it.

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

I was watching a movie about Frank & Jesse James. Frank was chasing some railroad speculators off his mother's farm. When he started down the lane he was holding an 1858 Remington cap & ball revolver. When he got to the end of the lane he was holding an 1860 Colt revolver. -- I saw it and backed...

That can vary by state. If this applies to anyone here be sure to know your state laws before doing so.

If you have to saw thru your patch your knife is dull.

    Patch material/methods

When I am shooting competition with my club, I load shooting blocks and utilize them. I can reload faster with them. I have a 10 and a 5 block. That usually covers the match. However, if I need more shots I then load from the bag and cut at the muzzle. When I am deer hunting, I like to use...

    Pre ignition

The club I belong to has banned blowing down the barrel. I have never done it and I never intend to do that.

    too complicated

I have all of my guns listed in my will. I have specified who gets what. I also made reference to a Aquisition and Disposition booklet I use to record data about each gun. I have made reference to gun value books and websites so my heirs can determine the current/future value of each gun. At one...

Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself!

Do you know why we always find things in the last place we look? ---------- It is because once we find it we quit looking.

Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself!

I once lost a rifle screw while I was cleaning my gun in the garage. My garage was dirty, messy and full of boxes and other things. I looked for quite a while to no avail. I ended up totally cleaning and rearranging the things in the garage in the hopes of finding the screw. I failed to find it...

Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself!

I think many of us have a portal to another dimension in our homes and/or workshops. Periodically random things fall into the vortex and are lost forever or at least for a long time.
