Why are Uberti pistol boxes so flimsy?

The common consensus is if you took good care of the box, you probably took good care of the gun. (In my younger days I did a lot of horse-trading with guns.)

Some basic questions, help me decide what I want/need.

Typically, black powder comes in 4 different grades. F, FF, FFF, FFFF. (There are exceptions, but this is for your basic information). F (or One F) is for cannons and shotguns. FF (or Two F) is for rifles 50 caliber or greater. FFF (or Three F) is for pistols and small caliber rifles. FFFF (or...

    Convert percussion to flintlock.

Like a lot of questions in life, this question has no easy, definite answer. You must consider all of the factors involved.

Gun from Civil War found in trash can at Gettysburg Walmart

Thank goodness the British ship carrying a thousand fully automatic machine guns was sunk by John Paul Jones in the Virgin Islands. The war would have gone badly for the USA.

    Chopped Flintlocks. How early?

Chief Pontiac has his men cut down their flintlocks to carry concealed under a blanket. This was a tactic used in his attempt to capture Ft. Detroit. This was in the 1600's.

Advice needed on making homemade shotgun cards

I have a choke measuring scale on my key chain. I go it from The Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio. I use it often when looking for a new gun or helping out someone else. Before retiring from the gun store, I used it most every day.

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

In a Jesse James movie, I saw Frank James chance a railroader off his mother's farm. He started off with an 1858 Remington pistol in his hand. When he got to the end of her lane, he was holding an 1860 Colt.

You usually use a patch (a piece of cloth) around the round ball to seal the projectile in the barrel.

Daniel Boone TV show historical accuracy

All I can say is, it is a good thing Daniel Boone was born and was on our side. From the 1740's until his death in 1820, it seemed (according to Disney) that he saved our collective Bacon numerous times. LOL

Daniel Boone TV show historical accuracy

Actually, Daniel Boone hated coonskin caps. He wore a different kind. It is thanks to Walt Disney that he became symbolized with the coonskin cap.

Daniel Boone TV show historical accuracy

I have watched Daniel Boone since I was a kid. Overall, I still like the show for good, clean, entertainment. Back in the 1960's we only had a black & white TV. The Hollywood sets looked more realistic then. Also, many of the episodes were actually based on actual events. However, the writers...

Interesting info from the Lewis and Clark expedition

I once read about two frontiersmen that got lost from their hunting party. They survived sometime in the wild with only 2 lead musket balls. When they shot some game, sometimes a buffalo, they would dig out the lead ball and pop it into their mouth. Using their teeth, they would round out the...

Interesting info from the Lewis and Clark expedition

There was one fatality on the entire Lewis & Clark expedition. One man died of an appendicitis attack, Sgt. Charles Floyd. His death was not directly related to the mission. They named a creek, Floyd Creek, in his honor. He was buried nearby.

Interesting info from the Lewis and Clark expedition

He may have used a lot of patch or wadding material around the stick to seal the projectile in the barrel. --- I have heard of soldiers shooting arrows from their muzzleloaders when they were running dangerously low on lead. They were under Indian attack and "returned" some of the arrows to the...
