Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

I have always used either Goex or Pyrodex. I have had good luck with both. I prefer Goex.

The Words We Use and How They Define Us

If we were uncivilized, we would kill and eat them raw without even gutting them.

    It appears that…..

Obviously, you ain't done it yet. --- It is loading the patch and ball down your barrel without first pouring your powder charge down the barrel.

    It appears that…..

I have dry balled a couple of times. Each time it was because somebody interrupted me to talk about some irrelevant subject.

Got any dumb statements by idiots?? (Muzzleloading shooting related)

That attitude is why our shooting sports can be in peril. You lose nothing by helping out a new shooter. You might also make a friend for life out of that person. We are all ignorant of different things. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Can anyone supply a list of states where a BP gun must go to an FFL holder?

I have learned to not go by what someone says they have heard. An earlier post advised to learn the law of where you want the gun shipped and go from there.

Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

    I just saw a mistake I made in this post. I actually use a .445 patched round ball. --- When I shot a 50 caliber, then I used a .495 PRB. ---- SORRY!

    Ferguson Rifle

Ferguson was a British Officer. He designed and built (or had built) about 100 of these guns. In a few battles they did whip the Americans badly. When British high command found out about these guns they were ordered to be confiscated and destroyed because Ferguson had not gone thru proper...

    So..... why a muzzleloading?

As a kid I sometimes witnessed people shooting old, original muzzleloaders. They always fascinated me. I watched tv shows and movies like Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett which also whetted my appetite. The Bicentennial, in 1976, piqued a lot of peoples' interest in black powder guns, me being one...

You're going to be a colonist....

If the colonists are going to survive, they should assign different people to bring different types of guns. Some with smoothbores, some with rifles and even some with pistols would greatly improve survival odds.

You're going to be a colonist....

Being restricted by the standards you have set I guess I would bring my Brown Bess 62 caliber/20-gauge smoothbore. It is the most universal muzzle loader in my collection. As for the job - I am sort of a jack of all trades. I can be a soldier, an amateur gun smith, a farmer, a merchant and a...

    Traditions Blunderbuss Kit?

I believe the effectiveness of the Blunderbuss was primarily intimidation. Even though the wide mouth did nothing for scattering the shot, it probably looked very intimidating to anyone that had the gun pointed at them. From my own personal experience, in a case of mistaken identity, I had a 38...
