    Urban deer hunting

Well I got out this afternoon and hunted the logged over area/blackberry thicket. Saw lots of track but no deer. I worked the woodroad back slowly towards the field by my house as it got dark. ~6" of snow, soft but not so much walking was silent. When I was `50 yds from the field I posted...

    Getting Started with Renegade

Welcome to the forum Alex! In my experience just a little paring with a small chisel was all that was needed. The ones I've installed were such an improvement I didn't bother touching the adjustments. There is a member here who has been missing a long time, Roundball, who polished up the...

    Urban deer hunting

I didn't get out to hunt today, had to work on the tractor. On of the rear tires had a slow leak. PITA to tear one down in the snow, so put some sealer in and drove it around to spread out the sealant. I drove though one of my woodroads into an area logged over a few years back, blackberrys...

How Many Process Their Own Game?

Canning meat is going to tenderize it. Process time is 90 min. in a pressure canner. It nice knowing both that it's ready to eat and stores without using power. You do have to worry about the jars freezing though.

    T/C Hawken Replacement Stock

"The Thompson replacement stock is available only for the Hawken and Renegade models, in all woods and only in what we call our 98% inlet form." http://www.longrifles-pr.com/thompsoncenter.shtml That's not to say there is still not a lot of work to be done. See Zonie's post

    T/C Hawken Replacement Stock

If it's a shooter and don't care about looks fix it. I've had good luck on ebay. Both bare TC stocks and TC stocks with all hardware besides barrel. Most of those ended up with GM barrels and Davis triggers. If you want a nicer stock that's already nearly fully inletted try PECATONICA RIVER...

How Many Process Their Own Game?

I do my own. I learned first from my uncle who taught me to hunt (for my years ages 12-14 before I got my first deer), and some from working on a farm school days. That was before my first deer when I was 15. An old farmer friend helped me with that first one. I learned more with each deer...

    Unloading a Rifle

I seal the end of barrel after loading with a round patch of duct tape when I go hunting to keep moisture out of barrel. If I don't shoot it, when I decap, I place a small patch of scrap motorcycle inner tube on the nipple then lower the hammer. Others have similar methods that work well...

    Urban deer hunting

I find suburban deer used to people and even dogs. If you walk by on a trail like a hiker they just watch you go by. If you are stalking they freak out if they spot you. I have been walking down a trail to a stand with my bow and spotted deer out of the corner of my eye. If I stopped and...

    Dry firing?

The little rubber grommets that are used on auto brake bleeders fit the nipple pretty well. Crazy glue a pencil eraser inside the hammer. Will need to remove w/acetone.

3f versus 2f when shooting conicals!

I got a 50 cal GM 1-28 barrel in stainless way back on a sale for $100 for a renegade. Found a deal on 370gr buffalo bullets, cheaper than cheap RBs. I can't remember it was like $40 for 700? I'll have to look at the box again, I'm stocked for good Have not tried 3F . 2F 70 80 or 90 grains...

    Lyman rifles

Lyman did produce a 58 cal 1-48 plains rifle, almost same as as Investarm/Cabelas Hawken. This is NOT a great plains lyman. Mine came with two 15/16 barrels, the 2nd is a 62 cal smooth bore, and it is a factory barrel made by Investarm. Concerning safety and bore size in a 15/16 barrel. I...

    Shooting a drone w/ muzzleloader?

I bet a falcon could be trained to snatch those gadgets out of the air. Shooting them might get you in trouble, but you might just say; my eyes are getting bad, and it looked like a pheasant to me. Sure wasn't much meat on it? Here's my hunting license. IMHO it should be open season on...
