WANTED Looking for a CVA Bobcat Hammer

I have a CVA Bobcat with the hammer spur offset to the right, probably to clear a scope. I want to replace it with one where the spur comes straight back. Anybody have one I can buy? Thanks! ~WH~

    Howdy from Alaska

Welcome from a former Alaskan. Spent a good bit of time up in the Fairbanks area, last time was 2000-2001, long enough that we found out my wife was extremely allergic to the mosquito bites so we high-tailed it back to Southeast. Now we're in Ohio where we don't have to fly anywhere to get...

This Poor Renegade had to come home with me

If you need, I just called The Gun Works (541-741-4118) and asked if they still have T-C percussion hammers. I was told that T-C parts have been flying out the door since S&W closed the company, but they still have 5 of the hammers for $26.75 each. Might save a lot of frustration! Also, I...

This Poor Renegade had to come home with me

That was how the Hawken bros. made their patent breech plugs (T-C's version, anyway), referred to as the snail. No screw-in bolster, it was cast into the BP itself. When you clean it, use a brush for .357 to get into the patent breech. Now a question for those who know! is the Renegade stock...

    Gardening ..again

I just hoed and raked the 8 vegetable beds this afternoon and will be sticking seeds in the ground as soon as I get off this infernal machine. One bed already has tomato plants, another has peppers. I planted peas in their bed, using seeds from last year (or the year before), and ONE came up...

Wanted - parts CVA Mountain Rifle Flintlock Lock

Have you tried calling Deer Creek? They don't show one in the online store, but sometimes they have parts, etc. which aren't listed. Another source might be The Gunworks Emporium (https://thegunworks.com/), give them a call also. I have a flint Mountain Rifle and it works like a charm after I...

    Flint Leather, Side Fit

The only reason to make a hole in the leather is to use an over-long flint. I have seen folks knap a notch in the rear of the flint so be able to move it back more. If your flints are shorter the notch is not needed. Position your flint so it is 1/16" or a touch more away from the frizzen...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I would try chucking it in the drill press and run it against your file, carborundum stone or whatever you are using to work it down. If you don't have enough for a good bite, try running a nut up to the head, tighten securely and hold that in the chuck. Or, can you get a longer (2 1/4" or 2...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I drilled mine 1/4" back, maybe a tad bit more. It did lighten up the trigger pull (but polishing the innards of the lock had made a big difference already), and it gives more room for my finger in the trigger guard. Of course, I had already swapped that out for a Leman.... ~WH~

    Underhammer question

Give Deer Creek a call. Many years ago they bought all the H&A parts from Numrich Arms, and were selling the underhammers. However, that was before the present owners bought the company. A while back they told me that they were going to be selling kits for them but I haven't seen anything...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I made my CVA Mountain Rifle double set trigger a single by taking the rear trigger off and drilling a new hole for the front trigger pivot pin further back: AND TO SHOW HOW THE TRIGGER LOOKS NOW IN THE RIFLE:

    Gardening ..again

I had to mow the back yard today. The neighbor mowed his two days ago and said it was pretty tough going, so I decided i had better get to it. Then I looked at the raised beds and the weeds starting up so got the hoe out and worked them over. Finally I still had some lawn seed left over from...

    Which Rifle?

Well, it's 3/4 of a year since the original post so it would be interesting to know what the OP ended up with! If he's still looking, the Traditions kit comes from Spain and is the same as CVA used to sell. I have a CVA Mountain Rifle I built from a kit and have modified over the years...

    .36 Colt Navy that powerful??????

I think that the comparison is with the .38 S&W, not the .38 Special. The U.S. Army found that the former was not enough to stop crazed Filipinos and so went to the .45. The .38 Special (also known as the .38 S&W Special and .38 Colt Special) is an entirely different beast. That said, i...
