    CVA Lock Mtn. Riflr Color.

Are you using Laurel Mountain Forge browning solution? I have had excellent results with it, both browning as well as bluing. It needs humidity to work. If you can make a plastic tent of some kind and put a humidifier or vaporizer in it with the part you are browning it will work very well...

    Flying Nipple

Could be, the nipple was removed when cleaning the gun and just screwed back in finger tight. ~WH~

    rebore

Both Bobby Hoyt and Ed Rayle are getting pretty long in the tooth so may be slowing down. Plus, EVERYONE working on m/l guns has been swamped during the Covid-19 fiasco and they are still way behind. I have a barrel at the Mold & Gun Shop, just need a stripped clean out screw removed and he...

    MUZZLE CONING TOOL

I ordered two tools from Mr. Wood, one in .45 and one in .50. They arrived yesterday. Great, quick service! Now I need to make time available to actually use them.... ~WH~

    Conversion question

It won't work. The Spanish made guns (CVA, Traditions, etc.) have a different drum/touch hole design, where these go through the breech plug and screw into the far side of the barrel. Once installed, they are drilled out from the muzzle. If you remove them, it is almost impossible to line...

    new touch hole

I think you are spot on to drill it our higher, as long as it takes out the vent hole, then installing a liner. I would leave the breech plug, but pull it afterwards to see if you hit it with the drill and if it needs to be smoothed out.

    New to forum

AS already mentioned, post your questions in the forum according to whether it is flintlock or percussion cap. I suggest just reading through the various forums and getting a feel for what is in each one. Be warned though, you may spend more time perusing them than you thought possible! And...

    Hey from Ohio, for now....

Welcome from Southeast OH! I hear you on the "for now" part, but there are worse places to be! Pull up a log and warm up at the fire; it's supposed to get a might chilly tonight!

    Hello from Oregon!

Welcome from SE Ohio! I lived in Oregon during the 1980s after my dad retired and moved to Aloha. I shot with the Forest Hills Black Powder Brigade until I went back to Alaska in 1992. They lost their range later, but I see they are active again. Good group of people.

What is Wrong in this Picture?

Bevel up or bevel down is determined by the gun itself. This has been debated since time immemorial with some claiming it should be one way and others that it should be the other. The only way to really know is to try the flint both ways and see which sparks better, and which way lasts longer...

Swapping dual trigger for single hunting type on T/C Renegade

Doesn't Davis make a replacement single trigger for the T-C? You might give them a call and see what they say.... ~Kees~

Need a stock made for my musket.

I second Pecatonica. Last year I sent them the plastic stock from a CVA Bobcat, asking for a copy but full stock. Sure, I had to finish and do some minor inletting, but it came out nice and didn't cost me a fortune. Give them a call and discuss what you need, and I'm sure they can help you...
