    Most of the Old Originals I Have collected around the Old B'ham Gun trade were all Steel Castings and so well cast they need very little file work.. The Old Boys were very good at casting small parts usng the Lost Wax process, used by the Ancient Egyptions.. Even the Escuchens were Cast.. O.D.

    SUGUGST THAT THE PIN HAS AN UNDERSIZED THEAD OR THE LOCK PLATE HOLE IS OVER SIZED Check the hole for size with a Tap if you have one.. O.D.

    A Dental mechanics Flexible shaft kit is the most useful tool in my Shed. Tungsten and Diamond burrs can shift a lot of mtal very quickly. O.D.

    I found that Berilium burned out with my heavily charged .461" M/R (100gr No.3 under a 550gr bullet). I was lucky enough to find 3 pieces of 3/16"dia Tungsten rod with holes thru'. 20 thou.,15 thou and 10 thou.. An .125"section of 010"Silver soldered into a case harded steel nipple has solved...

    Lucky Man. A friend in RSA also has one and I have an 1899 Cal Gustav 96 Mauser that is almost like new with lovely Arctic Birch Stock. Shoots Well also..O.D.

    Don't know Who made it but it's nothng like a Old Lock. Leaf spring would have normally been used up till 1900.Best Guns Are still made with Leaf Springs Even BERETTA'S AND PURDEY'S

    Just turn'd 90 ****.. First taste of BP was a Single 10b used by an "OLD" Lengthsman to shoot Crows (when I was about 12). From "His" length of Verges "He" kept for the Local Council. Shot size 5's or several lengths of fine Watch chain scrounged here & there. Worked Wonders on flocks of Rooks...

    Grain structure will not change from austanitic to martensitic at below1300 degrees Cent--720 far. Bright Cherry Red (which is unlikely when bending stirp for gun springs) so the structure still runs along rolled steel if the strip is taken along the roll direction..O.D.

    I always use CS65 for Gun Springs.. Make your self a "V" block and a narrow V punch with a small Rounded end to fit the the double thickness of the V Bloc to allow for the metal thickness.. After hardening S65 put it in the lead pot at melting temp.. to temper. O.D.
