Building a Chambers Isaac Haines rifle kit

Only 90 grains! That’s smoken! Very cool!

    Another Balistol question

I agree I think it works great for cleaning keeping fouling soft but I have experienced minor rust in the barrel if I let the rifle sit a while. I no longer use it in my flintlocks but I do use it in my 1873 rifle that I shoot a lot of BP out of to keep fowling soft and cleaning. If I don’t want...

Performance difference between Goex & Swiss powder ?

Funny I have one of those devices to measure velocity I have never used it to measure velocity out of my flintlocks! Thanks for waking me up; I’m going to have to try it.

Performance difference between Goex & Swiss powder ?

What about Caviar which is actually sphere shaped. Unlike regular Swiss which does settle caviar doesn’t settle that much. And unlike regular Swiss which is more silver in color Caviar is black. I’m too lazy to post pictures last time I did because my phone is old my pictures are not the best...

Performance difference between Goex & Swiss powder ?

When you go from goex to swiss you have to retest your loads. 5 grains lower i read is a good starting point possibly lower. Swiss is a higher performance powder kind of like going from 87 octane to 95. Sure I use Goex but my go to powder is Swiss or Swiss Caviar. Swiss Caviar measures better...

Fusil de Chasse , for fella in N.H.

Soap and water for your hands; light sanding and scraping for the stock. No chemicals or cleaning agents on the stock you don’t want it seeping into the wood IMO. Stuff can be messy but it cleans up easily. Amazing it doesn’t seep unless you use a thinner as I’ve read here

Thanks Dave for sharing another trade secret! You will go down in history like the Brown Bess!

    Kibler vs. TVM.

Yes! Thank you for agreeing. I had heard that as well and I am fine with them having others build for them. I would not consider some of the issues shoddy just unfortunate because after all they got it altogether and it shoots well. However the end result should dictate the price and in my case...

    Fixing Locks

“My apprentice, Maria, is the armorer for Warner's Extra-Continental Regiment, the Green Mountain Boys” Miss Maria is one fortunate young lady to be apprenticing with you Dave! Great to see what you two are up to!

Any chance we'll see powder from Goex in 2023 ?

Government contracts are where the money is make no mistake. The only thing I miss about Goex are the cans. Sorry i like Swiss.

Any chance we'll see powder from Goex in 2023 ?

Working from home is for those who didn’t work while they were in the office. The way you know is by asking them to show you their deliverable. Most don’t have one hence today no one misses them; notice i said most.

Any chance we'll see powder from Goex in 2023 ?

I was watching a show on I think it was the Saturn Rocket used to place the GPS satellites in space. They were talking about the different fuel used in the different stages. I believe in the second or last stage BP is used as an igniter to the main fuel. Who would think. Good stuff that BP!

    Kibler vs. TVM.

You know you are very right! Even with these issues they don’t affect the performance. I started building a Lancaster rifle a few months ago. I had no idea of what I was getting into. I’m not a gun builder but I figured I could do most of it. Without the help of Bill Raby’s videos and input from...

    Kibler vs. TVM.

Yes it is a skill it was perfectly fit! Unfortunately that stock had a ton of moisture in it. It didn’t like its transition from Mississippi to New York and then to New Hampshire. Though of all my many flintlocks it was only the two TVM that showed a good amount of shrinkage. Unfortunately for...

    Kibler vs. TVM.

I had to install the lock to keep the bit down. Obviously and not uncommon bits walk and can go in all different directions. Using the forward screw as the bit hold down. But it turns out well and now the ramryis no longer in the way of loading. That was annoying! LOL
