    Barrel wedge DIRECTION

Hi I am in the UK and have just acquired my first percussion shotgun. I notice that my barrel wedge is not pinned and I am afraid of losing it. What my question is -- Do the wedges ALWAYS go in right to left and have they always done so? I am puzzled because there is evidence on my gun of there...

    UNKNOWN HORN

I do thank you for that. Perhaps I might just keep it as it is and see what research I can do. You never know it just might be valuable. I gave 35 GBP for it. The chain is rather strange.

    UNKNOWN HORN

Thanks for the interest. Tiz a strange one. What intrigues me most is that it hangs "upside down" to any other horn. Dimensions are --- Total length without stopper 8" Dia at widest point 2" Dia of hole in spout three eighths ". It's going to make me a lovely little powder horn wherever it's...

    WHY SHOOT REPRO GUNS

No Artificer Gus. I think you have hit it on the head. The landed gentry were the buyers of fine guns in the day. "still are" and we do not have the wild animals to hunt. So most shooting was very civilized and driven game. Guns were used but well serviced. Only the rich could afford fine guns...

    Cap Shortage, Update

I truly wish we could get them delivered here in the UK. Special carriage is so expensive it's cheaper to collect them. My nearest supplier is 80 miles away and with our traffic that's no fun. Same applies to black powder.

    WHY SHOOT REPRO GUNS

Thank you all for responding. I now have a better idea of why. Thanks.

    WHY SHOOT REPRO GUNS

Just an idle thought. Why are so many folk on these forums shooting new repro guns? You lot "Americans" have in the past fought just about every other nation on your home ground. There must be literally thousands of original guns, beautiful things in perfect condition for sale, so why buy new...

    UNKNOWN HORN

ROBBY. Thanks the pegs are a puzzle. Not ivory but some form of metal. Not silver or they would be tarnished. Not steel or they would be rusty and they are definitely hand made.

    UNKNOWN HORN

Hi I have just acquired a powder horn. I know nothing of it's history. We Brits did not seem to use horns for our muzzle loaders, rather going for flasks. So I doubt this horn is British. It does appear to be home made and quite old. It also seems to want to hang upside down on a brass chain...

    POWDER FLASK

Looks that way. This same design has been in use for yonks.

    POWDER FLASK

Just an update. Sent the flask back and got a full refund. They were aware of the fault. Some kind person has promised me a powder horn. Cant wait to see it!

    POWDER FLASK

The repro one does, but the spring on that one is strong. But it sticks. It's been sent back. The one with a broken spring is different

    POWDER FLASK

    It's not!

    POWDER FLASK

That's a very fine offer thanks. The spring is 3mm wide. The diameter of the groove it sits in is 30mm, Spring is fixed with a tiny screw/pin at one end, 15mm along from this pin is a locating pin which goes through a flange. Having another good look at the repro flask I see that it does not...

    POWDER FLASK

It's called catch22! I did buy an original, lovely bit of kit. First time I used it the spring broke and i cant find another one.

    POWDER FLASK

f it was as easy as that i would do it. WHEN OPENED AND WITH POWDER THE SLIDER STICKS SOLID. you would break the lever off before it moved. Only way to free it it to keep jiggling it and slowly it goes back. I have a week to return the flask. It's going back!

    POWDER FLASK

Yes Mr Feltwad it is repro I am sure what you are saying is it's not fit for purpose. I will return it!
  18. D

    POWDER FLASK

Thanks but it's the slider that sticks. Spout is very wide.

    POWDER FLASK

Thank you all for the wise words. Yes I did know, but better to be safe than sorry. The flask works smooth as silk without powder.

    POWDER FLASK

Hi. new to muzzle loading and getting kit together. Bought myself a new Hawkesly powder flask. Lovely bit of kit but lever to open the slide jams open. It's the powder that jams it! works perfectly without powder. Powder is 2f and dry. Comments please.
