    Surprise!

At a pre auction viewing a couple of years ago in the UK. Talking to the guy who prepares the guns and he said it's amazing the number of vintage muzzle loaders that are brought in for auction and still loaded. It's the first thing they check!

Your most 'interesting' muzzleloader transaction ?

Not mine but my sons experience. On a recent summer break my son happened on an old gunshop in Norfolk UK. Obviously he just had to have a look inside. Having a pleasant conversation with the shop owner my son happened to mention that his father "me" was interested in loading and shooting...

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

OLDWOOD. Yes there still is a sheriff of Nottingham. The position is held by a councillor. I think his duties are somewhat watered down now. Sorry about your mate!

First day out with my new gun

First decent day on the clays with my new "early Christmas present" 180 year old English 16g percussion shotgun. Had a little trial a week ago but shot 20 rounds today. This is a sweet gun to shoot. Weighs six and a quarter pounds with the best triggers of any gun I have shot. Gun was one of a...

Where do you store your powder?

Black powder licence in the UK is really just a means of keeping tabs on who has it and that it's stored responsibly.

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

GREENSWLD I have been shooting at Lakeside for around six years. I was under the impression that it was owned by Simon Hadfield and family. Never heard of your fella. I dont want to be rude but where the heck is MIDDLE ENGLAND? I have lived for all of my 84 years in the midlands, never heard of...

Where do you store your powder?

Getting more and more difficult to get here in the UK. I think it's the tight regs on storing bulk that puts retailers off. Where I buy mine is probably the largest retailers of vintage guns in the country. Pistols rifles and shotguns and he is not allowed to store black overnight in the shop...

Where do you store your powder?

Here in the UK we have very strict regulations on how to store. Very similar to NY state. Wooden boxes, each 500 gram container to have it's own compartment with a tight fitting lid. The wooden box to be locked and secured with wire or chain. 10 kilo max and you have to have a police permit to...

    Cleaning review please

Shooting side by side shotguns there is always the danger of water /moisture remaining in faults along the ribs. boiling water will dry this out. WD does the same job. Single barrel rifle you dont have this problem.

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

If anyone had reported seeing you in your vehicle and spotted the gun you would have ended up faced with a heavily armed squad. Helicopter too no doubt, and you would end up with at least three months inside. You just broke every law in the book and a few more beside! ;)

    Cleaning review please

Funny that you guys. " far more experienced than me" are not keen on boiling water. Here in damp old UK I am new to muzzle loading but have been shooting black powder 12g cartridges for years. I shoot old original hammerguns which all seem very prone to rust if I am not careful and I always...
