Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

I live almost within walking distance of two clay grounds and have another three within a few miles. None of who will allow black powder shooting, stating noise and complaints from other shooters about the smoke as reason. Nearest one which will allow is 20 miles away and even that is in danger...

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

BILLY BOY. Actually archery used to be compulsory. Every adult male had to shoot 100 arrows every week. Robin hood used to take from the rich and give to the poor "as the song goes" now that's pretty much reversed!;)

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

Well if you get Black powder posted from Starley the best of luck to you HE WILL NOT POST TO ME! A strange man! I did go see him a couple of years ago as its not too far and he said he was closing up his shop here in the UK. His web site now has a big sticker on it saying WE HAVE MOVED! I...

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

Hi capnball If you mean what do I aim at. It's usually clays at Lakeside Wymsewold. "google" If I can get it I enjoy pigeon shooting over crops but if it's live quarry I always shoot nitro through a Browning over and under.

Hello from Nottingham in the UK.

Thank you I have been shooting black powder 12g cartridges form years. this is my first muzzle loader which I know I will enjoy. Somewhere to shoot in the UK is difficult to find and I just do not have the finances to do game shooting where black powder is frowned on. anyway.

    SEEKING: English long gun advice

Only just got into antique muzzle loading and although we in the UK have some potty laws I find the one on antique shotguns absolutely crazy. I have just acquired a percussion muzzle loading shotgun. Made in 1840 gun is in perfect condition and obviously not much used. OK it's proof is only...

    LUBE

An often asked question I am sure but here goes. I load 12g cartridges with black powder and have done for ages. Just acquired a muzzle loader and am puzzled as to how much lube to use on the wads. On cartridge cushion wads I use Crisco and beeswax and know exactly how much to use on the hard...

Tried to get some black from him Last year and he could not post I dont think TNT now carry explosives. Anyway today did the 85 mile each way trip to Mr Kranks emporium and got a years worth of supplies. Had a good drool too, that man really has some stock. Prices seem reasonable too.

    Percussion barrel cleaning.

Thanks. Cant see me doing the steam cleaning bit but it sounds a jolly good idea. New to this but just cant see why you would want to block the only exit for air with a tight wad!!!

    Percussion barrel cleaning.

Feltwad. Is WD actually corrosive to solder or is it some other action that makes the solder let go. Thanks.
  15. D

    Percussion barrel cleaning.

You live and learn! I have never before heard that WD is corrosive on solder and I have been using it on my English side by sides for years. You say you have practical experience of this?

    Percussion barrel cleaning.

Thank you all. I can see the wisdom of not removing the nipples. Was just not sure that the prescribed pumping action would put enough water through the tiny nipple holes.

You have a very valid point my friend.

    SEEKING: English long gun advice

Quite a few have beaten me to it .As with dogs and vehicles there is a time to let go. I know you are across the big pond but the interest in old muzzle loaders here in the UK is failing. Due perhaps to the shortage of gunsmiths and expense. Lots of lovely old cabinet queens for sale at give...

    Percussion barrel cleaning.

This has got to have been asked a thousand times but here goes again. I usually shoot black powder 12g cartridges and am ok with barrel cleaning. But, how the heck do I clean the crud from the "nipple chamber" on my new percussion 16 muzzle loader? do I remove the nipples when cleaning the...

    Plugs in barrels

Thanks Larry. No I said in an earlier post that the seller thought the gun to be Belgian, but the proof marks are English and the Name Sherwood which is engraved on the action belongs to a Portsmouth gunmaker around the 1840s So the gun will be Birmingham made
