    Gardening ..again

A little too early to plant in Memphis. I wait until after Easter due to the always late freeze.

    Round ball and blood trails

This has been my experience, as well.

    Spin Jag Loader

I have one. It does not really serve any purpose. in fact, if you want to use a bore scraper it won't do that properly as it does not rotate with the rod...

    1850s German Jaeger .54 cal

Why wouldn't it be in service, already? Gorgeous!

    TC Tang Sight

That is correct. Lots of sights will fit that. Williams and Lyman both are available for it. I use a Williams and I love it.

You don't even have to go outside to test those. Just clear the weapon properly, first.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I poured 125 .580 wadcutters and sized them to .575 for my Pattern 53 original Enfield. Then I made up some pre-measured 45 grain quick loads and lubed them, ready to go when warmer weather hits!

    Hawken Worth

    As stated, above.

Looking to try date to this musket, as the markings are indistinct apart from the crown engraving it's 75 cal, wooden ramrod, is it an Indian Trader?

Looks like a mix of parts, old and new from India to form a Bess. Some original, but that tock is certainly not. Maybe an old Indian Bess with a replaced handmade (poorly) stock. If the stock is original, then badly repaired and re-finished. The lock, lock plate and screws just do not look...

    WANTED Looking for .575 minieballs

Yes. That’s the reason for sizing them. I have a George Gompf mold that drops a hollow based .580 wadcutter that I size down to .575 for that perfect fit. But I don’t have minies. Lee makes a 575-611 mold that should work. Can probably find on eBay.

    WANTED Looking for .575 minieballs

Good luck. Most us cast them larger then lube and size them after. If you can find som locally that would be best. They tend to get banged up in shipping as they are rather thin skirted normally. If you could find some thick skirted minies that might work anyway.

Musket nipples fit on sporting type long guns?

I use musket caps on mine. You just have to make sure you get one with the correct threads.

    accuracy

Likely he put in a wad of tow over the ball to hold it in.
  17. OldSmoky1967

    Do you shoot old "Originals"?

I have heard of folks using a wad or some inert filler such as cornmeal to move a ball farther away from a pitted breach area to improve accuracy with no ill effects.

    Do you shoot old "Originals"?

I do. 1840 Germany. Johannes Mond, gunsmith Augsburg.

    German Jaeger Rifle ?

Valentin Christian Achilling was active in Suhl from 1849-1900. This should be around 1849-50 ish.
