How to clean gun properly after shooting prodex or 777 powder

I think Pyrodex is the most corrosive--all things equal. Let's face it, most people back from shooting are not excited to skip dinner and get to cleaning. Many wait till the next day. However with Pyrodex--do yourself a Favor and run a damp patch down the bore to reduce the Pyrodex residue...

    Revolver Capper

You can dremel out the cap window in the cylinder to fit the cappers. Some will fit cappers, some won't. See Mike Bellevue "Duelist 1954" on Youtube where he uses a small grinding wheel to open up the access for a capper. Many members here can advise as well.

CVA .32 Squirrel with rusty bore / rifling

Rust is one thing. Pitting from corrosion is something else. If the bore is damaged you can consider using a barrel smith to bore it out and/or reline it. Members have info on smiths doing barrels.

    Middle Eastern muzzleloaders??

In the early 1970s I was in Afghanistan, in Jalalabad. There were gunmakers making muzzle loaders for domestic use by the tribes. I also saw repairing going on. I was told more gunmakers were at the Pakistan Border making a wide variety of guns in these small shops. I saw most tribal men...

Two cycle motor oil for barrel protection

See what 45D thinks. He does lubing/protecting for a living. For me for long term film strength I use 40W non-detergent aircraft oil. For external parts barrels etc. AS for revolvers internals. 45D got me onto Mobil 1 synthetic grease for internals and, so far everything stays like brand...

    CVA .58 Mountain Rifle

You have it all under control. The CVA has an exceptional barrel (Bergara). You can take all North American Big Game with that rifle. Plenty will take it off you if and when you decide sell it.

.31 Caliber FIE Revolver In Presentation Case

There is something cool about these old FIE branded guns. I had a 36 cal version in steel but I can't find it for a few years now. It had fake pearl grips. FIE imported all manner of budget stuff- a lot from Germany, Italy and Spain into Florida. I know we all prize the big 45 s but these 31 &...

    BP source - maybe?

It is likely a scam. Failure to display the Powder Brands and grades,, with at least some, not available means the Company is not doing real business in today's business supply climate. Trust the old standbys -if needed get on a list and wait. Also, product integrity counts. If you are paying...

    TOW

The TOW Catalog is the best Textbook for teaching beginners muzzle loading. The older ones had huge valuable back matter info. If they stopped it shame on them.

How many use a .50cal for elk?

When hunting bigger more massive muscle and bone consult the writings and habits of the Buffalo hunters. Large bull Bison are a force to recon with. Elk no different. Think conicals in the 450-550 gr ranges. 100 gr plus charges. Sharps style for longer ranges. Definitely 50 Cal plus. Big thing...

SOLD .50 Hawken Green Mountain Barrel

If you only have one muzzle-loader it has to be a Hawken. Such a fast rifle to shoulder with natural pointability acquires the target spot-on. All these rifles are going up--this is a great price for THE go to deer rifle.

    As is said, “Well, hell.”

Look forward to see your progress. It is good to keep traditions alive. Plus these old guns kill many deer these days as well.. Older men often enjoy the thinner slice of life. We do not need big firepower unless serving our country. Muzzle-loaders are safer for loved ones to be around--and...

Just got a brand new lemon

Send in to Mike at Goons for repair/tune-up. That is a good idea no matter what. BP replicas are built and finished to a low price point. Spend some and get a pro to go over it--that way you have something that you can use and rely on. Remember it is a weapon --and it must work when called upon.
