Black Powder Banned at my Gun Club!

Seems like overstuffing. Less can be more at a range.

Is the black powder revolver industry dying out?

45 D is correct. Also, I do not think there is a conversion cylinder for the percussion cattleman. A well loaded percussion revolver might equal the cowboy loaded 45 LC that goes in the conversions. If a felon wants a modern firearm he can buy it on the streets for cash. There will always be...

    Too much powder?

Juice Jaws is correct. Too much powder for sporting uses. Very often a lighter load is the best performing load for the job. Definitely for accuracy.

Is the black powder revolver industry dying out?

Handguns are always popular ,even the old school ones. There are only a few quality makers which makes for a tight supply. Then the cap shortage which appears aimed at these loosely regulated guns. Vista sold to a European group. Some American business man needs to step up and replicate the...

    Percussion cap shelf life

Recent Cap compositions might be different from older stuff. Older manufacture might be more stable. I suspect that the lack of caps is intended. All ammo is under the influence of the new woke ESG garbage. No way would manufacturers not fill a need that makes profit. One manufacturer makes CCI...

    Apply wax in barrel channel?

Stainless steel varies in the alloys. Some will rust along with ordinance steel. When I bring in my rifle unfired but wet, I will dry it by the fire for awhile and revolvers dry with a hair dryer on low. Men who handle their guns more, have fewer problems, all the way around. This wax...

    Gun show treat

No doubt if sold, they would go out of sight at auction.

    Plugging percussion nipples

How about using a liquid that is slow to evaporate with dye? Maybe tranny fluid? Then a very small defect would be easier to spot. Also another way is to pressurize the barrel with air and cover with soapy water. An older gun should never get max loads in any case.

Strange Day for Me in the Woods.

Like in Bull Fighting an exceptional animal gets spared. But most of us would have had that Rack on our wall. Understandably, the majesty of God's creation can be awe inspiring. We each have to do what sits right with us at the time. Whether you shot him or not, that animal provided the...

    Is it clean?

Of course ,if you do stick it in your mouth don't use anything pre-lubed or heavily dyed. You can't overthink this stuff.

Did our forebearers use a shooting rest or stick for rifles?

Shooting sticks shaped like a Y are still used in African Safari for hunters who need them. They are used to prop-up heavy rifles for weaker/older clients. They are placed by one of the assistants just before a shot. There are some Youtube videos showing them in use for double rifles. It is...

Is pure lead really necessary for muzzle loading balls or bullet in rifle or hand gun ?

I appreciate the fine points brought up here. Over the years I have gotten cast balls as a gift and some conical. Also bought some factory stuff. Maybe I am just an old toad with poor eyesight, but I have never noticed "poor performance" from my lead. That said there has been plenty of piss...

    Rust prevention

The idea is to prevent rust by keeping H2O /oxygen from steel. I have used coatings of whatever I had over the years. Vaseline, axel grease and plain motor oil. Key thing is to keep from humidity generally and by coatings specifically. I stopped internal revolver corrosion by using the advice...

    Different types of caps

I cannot understand why Vista stopped making Remington no 10's--and why the new owners are not turning them out. Someone needs to copy the Remington specs and bring back a knock off of the Remington no.10 cap with the longer skirt. Vista Outdoors is making the CCI no 11-- but not producing the...

    Should I Buy This?

The Rifle is Legacy quality. What is good is hard to get. And you get what you pay for. I would buy it. I have several Hawkins--but none as nice as this one you are considering. Life is short. Go for it.
