BEWARE OF FEDEX AND COLLECTING TEXAS.

All great wisdom and precautions. These FEDEX monkeys are true box slingers. I offer extra shipping payment for good packing and extra for insurance. Try to pick-up in person if not too far off. I have had my shipped stuff go to distant neighbors and had an Uber driver bring me another (lucky a...

    Yep, I'm a sissy.

They need to make one that mimics Buckskin, or it could be coated to blend in. Hold your rifle firm to the shoulder and do not let the stock slam you from a loose hold. During hunting season wear a thick lined jacket or coat when possible. Wear eye and ear protection. All the above advice is...

    0.25 stainless shot.

People come up with the darndest solutions for the "anti lead" crowd. The few lead pellets left by shot guns does not pollute. Remember the lead came from the Earth- millions of tons of it are residing everywhere in the Earth's crust. YOU SIMPLY MUST AVOID EATING LEAD. Stop knawing on that lead...

Stock Pietta 1858 .44 Chrono results w/8" barrel

Some 38spl rounds do not equal the energies we see recorded with these loads. This reminds us of the need to maintain these older style revolvers. Safety is key. Never point a loaded C&B revolver at anything you do not want to shoot/kill and have the mechanics of these old style revolvers...

Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

Pyrodex has slightly more energy than standard BP. We all prefer the real tradition of Black Powder--but lately we have witnessed the scarcity of Black powder at times. It is wisdom to buy what you can get. A selection of powders is the best idea. As was said, they will all push a ball down the...

alert! #10 caps, free hazmat at natchez

No one likes taxes but Governments. The issue is that your local retailer has to collect taxes---but the things bought online were tax free. That would be unfair to the little guy running a local business who is struggling to survive against the already substantial big online retailers. I do not...

    Percussion Cap brands

The old Remington # 10's for Italian repro revolvers. However the ownership changed after Remington went under due to Sandy Hook lawsuit. The new issues cost double per tin. But are they just as reliable as they were when made by Old Remington? Remains to be seen. I'm still using some old stock...

    Muzzleloader season camp

Great cool weather camp-inviting for sure. Here in the sunbelt you would pack a small bag of Borax Powder and sprinkle on the forest floor. Keeps down ticks, red bugs ,fire ants and snakes. 20 mule team couple of handfuls cast about. Or a sewn in floor. Very cool digs. Thanks.

Which state is the best for ML?

Huge deer population, but the deer are not as big as Georgia or Northern mid-west deer. Florida is just a Freer State, maybe matched by Alaska, Texas and Wyoming for hunters.

I have almost a full can of 4f. Can you use this in an 1858 under a ball as well as a 200 grain Lee conical?

Properly loaded 4 f is a great pistol powder. Often used in shorter barrels. If that is all you can get : use it -but no matter the grade of fineness, more powder does not equal a better load. Often a lighter load is the accurate load.

Which state is the best for ML?

Florida is the best State for muzzle loading hunting. Florida has an early season for muzzleloading hunters ,and hunters can hunt the general gun season with a muzzleloader. The possession of muzzleloaders is protected by a State Supreme Court decision. To hunt, a permit is required. Over a...

So, You Want A Peep Sight....

Peep sights, properly adjusted, are superior to other open sights because they naturally force the eye to center on the target. Thanks for the interesting post.

    Taylor Uberti better than Uberti?

I side with the "you get what you pay for adage." If you are Taylors or Cimarron you have a personal connection and face with the manufacturer. Also there is pride in the product that the top importers & merchandizers bring to the offering. Typically the top names inspect each gun--and the...
