Pa hunters, do you wear camo during the intlock season

I grind everything but the loins, back straps, and heart on a deer that has been running.

Pa hunters, do you wear camo during the intlock season

The feeding Circuit of a deer in the farm lands of Ohio is dramatically different than the feeding circuit in the Forest of Northwest PA The key is to get the blood out of the deer as soon as humanly possible. The adrenaline in the blood of a deer on the move needs to be evacuated ASAP

Five days of hunting in northwest Pa.

I don't know about the eastern edge of the forest but the Western Edge is a magical place!

Pa hunters, do you wear camo during the intlock season

I can absolutely, positively, tell you that that is 100% true! After hunting for 50 plus years there is not only a difference between a calm deer and a harassed deer but there is also a huge difference between Pennsylvania and Ohio deer as far as taste and tenderness. As far as his other claim...

Pa hunters, do you wear camo during the intlock season

I have not read anyone comment on the one thing that concerns me when thinking there could be people in the woods without orange on. I refuse to even shoot at "a deer", I will only shoot if I can clearly identify my spot two ribs back from the front shoulder, or the chest if it's facing me...

Five days of hunting in northwest Pa.

Thanks guys. I don't have any problem with cold but driving my 1979 F-150 in single digits can be fun.

Why not Pyrodex in a flintlock?

Interesting video. Black powder vs pyrodex.

Why not Pyrodex in a flintlock?

It works. I "might" work differently.

Condensation on muzzleloader barrel in season cabin.

I think your last point is the one I would fear the most. I have a loaded 357 Magnum tucked up in a spot only I could get to quickly at my seasonal cabin. It's in a leather holster and I have never seen any indication of rust.

Why not Pyrodex in a flintlock?

I would be curious to see what the results would be of a truly independent test. I will eventually conduct my own but that won't be for a while. For example, I have seen that pyrodex ignites at a much higher temp, but at what temp, and how fast, does 4F burn? If 4F burns at a higher temp than...

Condensation on muzzleloader barrel in season cabin.

I have a seasonal cabin as well and there are times I get there and it's below zero. I heat with ventless propane and I never turn on electronic things like the TV until it has warmed up to full temp, which can be 6-8 hours. As far as condensation on the metal of a gun, I wouldn't worry as...

    Flintlocks and Black Powder

Interesting story. A friend is coming up from Virginia to hunt flintlock in Pa. with me this week. He and I are both novices at this tradition. He asks if he can use 4F for propellant and I chuckled. He asks why I chuckled and I said "I will explain it when you get to camp" but for now, we...

Five days of hunting in northwest Pa.

I'm sure 1-5 will be good since I simply love being in the unspoiled nature of the ANF.

Five days of hunting in northwest Pa.

I don't know if this abortion of a gun I bought (Traditions Pa. Pellet) can be classified "tradition muzzleloader" but I am really looking forward to the next 5 days. A great friend is coming up from Virginia and we are going to hunt the Allegheny National Forest in Elk and Forest counties of...

    Guidance

I was looking at the manual and found that it actually instructs you to put 3-6 gains of 4F into the touch hole.

    Guidance

@ironeyes969 as broke mentioned I just bought the Traditions PA pellet. Trigger pull out of the box was about 30 lb and gritty, but you can adjust it. It has permanent sling mounts so in order to clean the barrel properly, you have to take the sling apart to get it off the barrel. However I...

Pa hunters, do you wear camo during the intlock season

I want to apologize for being heavy-handed! I am just extremely safety-conscious having been shot myself. I was taught to be extremely cautious about identifying my target and not just a deer, but which rib you will send the bullet through. So there is absolutely no excuse for shooting a...
