    Flint/frizzen relationship?

Thanks guys! I noticed that if I shim the flint to give it a better angle, there is very little flint left for the jaws to grab .....the flint is nowhere near the screw. It is definitely not rebounding, it is stopping 1/4 inch short of the bottom of the frizzen.

    Flint/frizzen relationship?

Okay, I lubed the frizzen spring, played with half a dozen flints and angles, I even have another of the exact same gun (I bought one for my friend who is coming up from Virginia), and I have concluded that I have a bad spring weight ratio. You can see, in the pic below, where the flint starts...

    Flint/frizzen relationship?

I am going to go play around with it. "I'll be back"

    Flint/frizzen relationship?

That's not dumb, I have been asked many times "is that a half or full ****".😂 Yeah, the pic was half cocked and I am shooting from full ****.

    Flint/frizzen relationship?

Thanks guys, here is what I can tell/show you. The gun is an inexpensive Traditions Pa. Pellet which I bough for the sole purpose of getting a couple more weeks in the woods this year. I'm just trying to get the most out of this gun for now. The flint and the frizzen were clean. I test fired...

    Flint/frizzen relationship?

I searched but couldn't find the answer, maybe it's because I am a rookie and didn't know how to find it. I have noticed that my flint does not go all the way down sometimes and I wonder if that is normal? I have read that you want the flint to neatly slide down the frizzen, and while mine...

    Flintlocks and Black Powder

Since this thread is titled Flintlocks and black powder, and since I am complete rookie, I seek some knowledge on the use of black powder. Keep in mind that I am a complete rookie so I am permitted a few more stupid questions. I can't wait to get more powder so I can go do a lot of practicing...

    Keeping your powder dry

And I want that cap n ball pistol that Leonardo DiCaprio shot ten times like a semi-automatic pistol in the dumbest movie I've ever seen "The Revenant"

    Keeping your powder dry

I ordered a cows knee and a frizzen cover. They will be here before my next hunt.

    Revisiting prescription Shooting Glasses

I'm not sure I understand how cheaters to help see the sights could be used for hunting? How would you see things in the distance when looking through cheaters?

    Flintlocks and Black Powder

If you think about it, this is nothing more than the warning in a owner's manual for a gun saying guns can be very dangerous. A gun can only be dangerous if used inappropriately.

    Flintlocks and Black Powder

I think this argument falls into the category of those who are not responsible, skilled, and intelligent enough to do it properly, don't think anybody should be allowed to do it. It's like gun control activists, they do not possess the skills to responsibly handle a gun so they think guns...

    Taxidermy in northwest Pa.

Does anyone know of a good taxidermist in northwest Pa. I hunt in Elk and Forest counties and had what I think is going to be a bad experience this year. I shot a beautiful coyote and the story behind the hunt and the shot were special so I wanted to get it mounted. I asked the local butcher...

You are correct in your assumption. I will keep this all in mind.

Maybe those recommendations are like the recommendations on the new gas cans, to make sure a drop of gas is not spilled. "Don't use the old gas cans, you might spill a drop" "Use the new gas cans and spill a half a gallon"

I'm a rookie. Are you saying it's okay to double load 3F but not 4F?

    Revisiting prescription Shooting Glasses

Sorry to bring up an old thread but it is the most recent thread I found on this topic. Being new to flintlock hunting, I would like some recommendations on types of "hunting" glasses. I don't wear glasses except for cheaters so I have to find something that will work for protection while...

    Flintlocks and Black Powder

Yeah, we had to resort to putting on short drives because there were no hunters in the woods and the deer weren't moving. So, prime the pan, stand or drive for 20-30 minutes, unload the pan, jump in the truck, and drive to the next spot. Putting something in the touch hole is another step I...
