    1863 Pocket Remington Canted Barrel

Yeah, tried that right off, wouldn't budge. However, it came off without too much trouble after soaking for a couple days in the pb blaster. Was just corrosion holding the barrel to the frame. Cleaned up ok though. The frame threads look perfect so I don't think it was ever fully torqued...

    1863 Pocket Remington Canted Barrel

Yeah, that's why I was wondering about torque specs. I know there will be some stretching, just don't want to overdo it, especially since I don't know how far it was pushed in the past. Don't want to stretch things too far and end up launching the barrel down range when I fire it. :D I think...

Recommended revolver parts to upgrade or have as spares?

I think everything but the actual triggers are the same. Different length between army and navy.

    1863 Pocket Remington Canted Barrel

Yeah, It's tight now, one of the first things I checked. It's snugged up all the way against the receiver. I will likely need to also remove some from the tip of the barrel to get a correct barrel gap. It's already too tight. At least I'll be able to set the gap myself. Most larger...

    #11 caps

That only works if you can get whatever caps you want. Remington #10's are so rare I haven't been able to buy any in the last 4 years. Swapping to different nipples has kind of become a necessity.

    1863 Pocket Remington Canted Barrel

If this were a steel framed gun that sounds like a quick way to do it. Such thin brass has me scared. Good to know some aren't tight, hopefully this one is not. Also good to know on the cylinder pin, wasn't sure if the corners of the barrel would clear it when unscrewing the barrel. Nah, no...

    1863 Pocket Remington Canted Barrel

Had bad luck buying stuff on the classifieds. Grabbed an 1863 pocket, where I thought the only real defect was a missing front sight. Turns out the barrel is also canted by about 12 degrees. Oh well, caveat emptor is apparently in effect, should have asked for more pictures. Couldn't tell it...

    #11 caps

Weird. I've got At least 7 sets of Slix Springs nipples spread out between pietta/uberti 1858's, walkers, pockets, 1860's & 1851's. They all work perfectly with CCI #11 caps. Track of the wolf nipples also fit #11 caps well. I don't have any regular RWS 1075's, but I have a ton of 1075+...

    #11 caps

Yup. You can pinch the caps, and then make sure they're well seated with a bit of antler or bone, but the right sized nipples will be miles better.

Asm 31 6 shot baby dragoon cylinder

Forgot to mention, the cylinders are the same length. Right around 1.456". Also, that center line deviation should be cut in half if you want to measure the alignment of a single chamber, so the cylinders could be off from the bore by .00125". You're gonna have variations between different...

What do you guys lube your C&B revolvers with?

I use nothing, just ball/conical and powder. Life is to short to mess with applying wads or gobs of grease for no good reason. I use the guns like they were meant to be used. Use the proper ball size, and make sure your caps fit the nipples you're using, and there will not be a problem.

Recommended revolver parts to upgrade or have as spares?

Spare parts are expensive. I'd just buy another gun while you're here. If you can't take a whole gun with you for legal reasons, leave behind / sell the receiver and other parts you might not need.

Asm 31 6 shot baby dragoon cylinder

I just bought a 6 round gun on the classifieds here, arrived this evening. Annoyingly the action locked up on it as I did some test cycles, I think the internals are going to need some work. Since I also have a 5 shot ASM, I thought I'd do some quick comparisons to the two cylinders to see how...

Pietta 1858 New Army revolver and conical sizing

My Johnson and Dow mold puts out pure lead bullets at .461-462, which are quite difficult to load in all my 44 revolvers. Got a cheapo Lee .457 sizing die, it's really fast to use, and makes the bullets load easily in all my revolvers. I throw them in a ziploc bag with a little alox lube...

    Conicals for revolvers

I think it'd be less work to melt the wrong size balls, and cast them into the correct size rather than have to deal with the mess of lube everywhere. And, if I didn't have that ability, I'd probably just shoot something else while waiting for the correct sized ammo. Heck, at pistol distances...

    DIY Defarbing and Refinishing

Any reason to use propane? Does a typical 1500w hot plate or stovetop not give off enough heat for an ammo can full of salts?
  18. KingOfKindling

    For sixty years.....

While it's apparently possible to remove enough leftover salts and acids with materials other than water to avoid corrosion, I can't think of a single reason why I would want to do so. Black powder is incredibly dirty. No way would I want to try and deal with all that gunk when it can be...

    Southern pistols

The Kentucky Rifle Foundation sells USB sticks with libraries of high definition pictures from the various gun schools. Volume 14, "Smokey Mountain Rifles" contains a few pistols, one of which is the Salola Pistol mentioned above. The USB sticks are totally worth it, very high quality pictures...

Fancy Wood - Making my own grips

Yeah, that has been the goal from the beginning, well for an 1860 anyway. Finally got my hands on one, but have been using my spare time to go shoot it instead of clone it. I'll start a new thread here pretty soon once I start tackling the design.
