What Brass brush for .54 cal.

So we can have another “how do I remove a stack bore brush from my barrel” thread.

tightening the jaw screw pushes the flint out?

Your flint is way too short. Being so far in front of the jaw screw it is just pushing it out, it’s not clamping on it. The hole in your leather is there to give more clearance for your flint to go as close to the jaw screw as possible. On half **** with the frizzen closed measure from the...

    Accuracy

Should be fine to learn with. Just go to the matches and shoot it. If you like it and wish to continue with black powder shooting then you could upgrade. There will be friendly people there that will let you shoot their guns and you can see what they are using for their shooting supplies. A...

    T/C Hawken round ball size

I use .440 in a T/C Hawken. .010 patches work good, you can go thicker if you wanted. I use .018, I don’t know that they shoot better or not, it’s just what I have.

    Using TOTW Mink Oil?

I always prelube when I use it. I’m in Michigan and you might have the same problem being in Oregon. It is stiff when it is cool outside and really doesn’t absorb into the patches very well. Plus I found I could use less if I just rubbed a little on the patches and then microwave and pressed them.

Poll: What do you use your muzzleloader for?

100% targets. Monthly club shoots, a couple rendezvous a year, Friendship occasionally, some trap and skeet. Practice in the winter. I do find shooting muzzleloaders very relaxing and quite enjoyable.

    New Fowler in 20 bore

That Is a great idea! Thanks for posting that, I’m going to modify my dowel, I never would have thought to shape it. I’m sure I have some extra 58 jags that should work perfect.

    New Fowler in 20 bore

I used to ram it all down together, not sure why I stopped doing that. One thing I forgot to mention I have a short dowel to straighten out the over powder and shot card once it’s in the barrel so I can slip them through the choke sideways. Have a trap meat shoot at the end of the month...

    New Fowler in 20 bore

My experiences are the same as what brokennock posted. I only hunt clay birds. My load is: powder, overshot card, wad, shot, a couple overshot cards with the edges slit so they go down easy. 1 1/8 oz shot, 70 grains powder is a stout load in a light gun. One ounce loads with 60 grains of powder...

    Another Ball Flask

Thanks, I will try that on my next project. Hope it turns out as nice as yours. I made a bag for a friend and one for my wife. It was my first project and I didn’t really know what to do so I just left it raw.

    Powder dispenser

So true. Must have 4f and they still clog. I have to keep a wire nipple pick in my pouch to unplug the two I have.

    Another Ball Flask

Very nice!!! I really like the metal rings, and the stopper is fantastic. What is your technique for finishing / burnishing the edges? They look really good.

Just got , Amish Walnut planks ....

That speaks pretty loudly to the quality of your work. Every time I see a trade gun for sale at a shoot now I get visions of your Facebook page and say to myself this isn't even close to what it is supposed to be and keep on walking.

Soon I hope!!!!! I've turned down a nice one holding out for one of yours. I'll be getting a hold of you.

Just got , Amish Walnut planks ....

I think that really adds to your guns, having the story of the stocks is really neat. You don't know how bad I want one of your guns, and you're making it really hard for me to resist......

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Thanks to, or because of Jim Kibler depending on how you look at it I had to cast up another batch of balls this morning before it gets to hot out. I usually make enough in the spring to get me through the year but the SMR is so much fun I've been hitting the shoots pretty hard this year...
