    Kibler SMR length issue

The early ones were. There's really no way to shorten the barrel as cutting off at the breach is the only way to do it considering the flare. I'd finish it and pass it along.

Jim Kibler got it to me quickly

No offense taken at all. As a matter of fact, my odd comment feels right at home in this thread. I've tried most every thing you can imagine but switched long ago to just hitting up someone like Dave Person or Al Martin, and doing what they suggest based on what I'm after. I use analine dyes...

Jim Kibler got it to me quickly

Also, now that Ive dropped by and reread my post and the thread, I realize what prompted you to unleash your iron wit. I’m a bit slow on the upload sometimes. I didn’t mean to write “traditional looking finish” but “traditional finish”, as opposed to more modern finishes that give that...

Jim Kibler got it to me quickly

The fourth from the top is a Jack Brooks made Carolina Trade Gun made after the famous extant Bumford painted gun. Gotta love red covered in line-painted black ivy. …so your geetar idea, OP, isn’t that over the top….

Jim Kibler got it to me quickly

At the risk of raising the ire of the antiestablishment bunch, I suggest a traditional looking finish. Tannins, Aqua Fortis, your choice of an analine dyes, and maybe Jim Chambers finish or similar if you got a Maple stock with any curl at all. Post pics and have fun!

Where do you draw the line?

“Sitting here in a bush like Jane Goodall and watching Anti-Thread-Counting Richards in their natural habitat I can’t help but notice that the differences between them and Richardicus Thread-Counticus himself are so small as to be non existent, giving me the distinct notion that they are indeed...

    Any Allen Martin owners

Also, you might ask him if he has one lying around. I’m sure he rarely does but I’ve bought at least one he had laying around and one from a buddy of his he made a new one for.

    Any Allen Martin owners

I’ve owned many of his rifles and still own one of his Schimmels in .54. I literally just sold a .50 by him on ALR last week. It was one of his earlier guns made in .45 and Bobby Hoyt-ed to .50. No one makes a sexier flintlock than Al. He uses different suppliers and barrel specs, I believe...

Where do you draw the line?

I saw it on the news or in an article years ago and have since had problems unseeing it.

Where do you draw the line?

No we can’t. Which reminds me of those awful pictures of those adults wearing diapers laying in giant cribs sucking pacifiers and saying they ‘identify’ as babies. No, you don’t. You have no knowledge of what it’s like to have a head full of nothing and no clue what that warm stuff in your...

Where do you draw the line?

I agree. While not being a big problem in the Traditional Muzzleloader community per se, it’s a problem over time when any group gets together with the goal of sharing information. A certain percentage of the old salts get crotchety and elitist to prop up what’s left of their dwindling...

Where do you draw the line?

And most importantly, following that logic, it’s 2022. All the constellations in all the wrong places and us walking around with our mouths full of fancy teeth….

Clafkiller, eh? Sounds like you’re just down the road from me. Welcome from Cannon County.

Where do you draw the line?

I’m no stitch counter, but I personally prefer a thing that is HC/PC to a thing that is not….I know that to many guys this traditional BP stuff is just a novel variation of the modern hobby of shooting and hunting that they love and I think that’s just dandy. I find I avoid cricks in my neck by...

What have you done to further the muzzleloading hobby?

I’ve done less than many of you but somewhat more than those irredeemable old codgers who snarl at noobs for asking dumb questions. You know who you are….. Oh, yes, and there ARE dumb questions, but none of them are half as dumb as the guy who calls them that. Like I just did….
