    This old lock...

I am considering using this "older" James Golcher lock in a Vincent half stock build. Judging by the two lock bolt holes it may have been used in more than one rifle before this. As you can see the bridle is broken. Also, the tumbler is cut only for full **** operation. I am thinking lock...

    Old Sturbridge Village Firearms/Militia Exhibit

Just after we were married, my wife took me to visit her mom and family in Boxford, Mass. She was raised in a house that was built in 1806. Walking through the front door was a step into colonial America. Her mom had done a masterful job of appointing the home with period correct and...

First shot hits the bull, then-

I think it's important to know what you/your rifle can do with a clean, cold bore. Some ML shooters consider the first shot from a clean, cold bore a "fouling" shot and look for the following shots to give a better representation of the rifles performance.

Thoughts on the different rifle styles ?

One of your considerations might be what it is that you want to do with the rifle you intend to build. If you are going to hunt (large or small game) with it, caliber could be a factor . Do you have a lock preference? Straight or swamped barrel, etc., etc.. Defining your operating parameters...

    SMR kit

Even though assembling a Kibler rifle is pretty straightforward, there's a lot to be learned by building one. It's a good place to start - and worth the $$ for the education and finished product.

    Curious about copper

A question for those "in the know": Why isn't copper used more often with regard to metal inlays and such? (I suspect it could be somewhat of a prestige thing.) I have seen photos of thin copper wire inlays in stocks and as high-lights of some carvings. And there are photos that show copper on...

    Woodcraft Vise

I'm jealous, I'll admit it. Must be time for me to upgrade - been using this one for forty-two years - for everything vise-worthy... That is genuine well used neoprene in those jaws though... Seriously, enjoy your new vise. It should serve you well. ppb

    Repair advice?

For those interested, here's the follow-up - i.e., what I chose to do for the r-rod pipe repair. Before I forget, thanks to all of you that offered advice and suggestions about how to do this. I appreciate your input. I went with the solder approach for the challenge and also that would have...

Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle, 40 Caliber Cherry

Ordered a cherry stocked Kibler SMR project in .45 cal. a little while ago. Waiting for it's arrival. Yours looks really good! Seeing that one, I'm glad I went with the cherry - hope I can do it justice... (I also am a fan of Fiebing leather die for coloring wood.) Well done!

    Repair advice?

Also, with a nice solid ring as that, is it reasonable to think the integrity of the original barrel set (solder joints, etc.,) is still in tact?

    Repair advice?

Yes they do. It's a nice solid ring - like a tubular bell. Good tip.
