    Another .32 Crockett Thread

I had a Crocket . . . the aesthetics were great, size, fit, finish feel size etc . . . however it never shot well for me . .. I read all these stories and threads about how accurate it was . . . I tried everything . . . loads, powders, patches . . .lube .310, .311 etc . . . I finally sent it...

    Philadelphia derringer

If I get real bored again, I may work on the nose, it's kind of fat . . .

    Philadelphia derringer

During the Covid Shutdown . . . I pulled out a CVA derringer my dad and I built in the late 70's when I was a kid . . . It didn't look that great to me now that I have been into muzzleloading in recent years . . . I refinished it with Febings (?) leather dye and got out my round files I give it...

    Well, now I've done it!

It say a lot of good things about how Petonica worked with you. Kudos to them . . . no Kudos to the PO though.

Converting a Lyman flintlock to a Chamber's Siler lock?

I have a left hand GPR flint . . . I also have a Chambers fowler and TVM Lancaster, both with LH silers. . . A siler would look great on it, but as some said, you'd need a builders lock then cut the plate to fit the rounded inlet. I will say, that thought the Lyman Lock isn't all that...

    Simple Aqua Fortis Finish Question

Well, I knew I didn't have a super curly stock in my Chambers PA fowler, nor did I expect one, but when I hit it with Nitric and rubbed oil in it, I was surprised that it had about 50% . . it was a little nicer than I had expected. . . it's under there, but not real visible outside of good...

    Simple Aqua Fortis Finish Question

I was looking up Formby's Furniture Restorer . . . it looks like that's been taken over by MinWax . . . it also looks like a stripper. . . it's pretty expensive on Amazon & eBay . . . any other product suggestions, should I attempt to take off some of the brown AF to show more stripe contrast ...

    Simple Aqua Fortis Finish Question

Thank you . . . you are correct, I doubt that was quarter sawn. I was a Jim Chamber's kit, (preserve). I don't think pre-carves are quarter sawn very often. . . that's a higher priced piece of wood. Thanks for the refinish suggestion. That's helpful.

    Simple Aqua Fortis Finish Question

Yowza ! that's an amazing stock. Thanks for your answer, I wish I had rubbed out my rifle more with the scotchbrite pad as I think it would have looked a lot better . . . honestly, it was a Chamber's fowler and I wasn't sure how curly it was . . I saw some and had hopes . . the Nitric...

    Simple Aqua Fortis Finish Question

My last rifle build was my first time using Nitric or Aqua Fortis. I really liked using it and how it turned out. However, indoors it just looks kind of plain chocolate brown. Outside I get more of the contrast between grains or curl and soft wood and the translucent look. I am planning my...

Wedge Pins for Lyman Great Plains Rifle

As I recall . . . .I own a GPR . . . the manual recommends bending the barrel slot, by tapping it with a hammer rather than bending the Key . . . maybe someone else can weigh in on whether I am correct or not. Bending your key may cause a problem with it lining up on the other side.

    Traditions quality

I had a Traditions Crocket that I bought used from the Log Cabin Shop. It was a wonderful rifle in terms of fit and finish, comfort to carry, size, and it had a lot going for it. It never misfired for me. As you may hear, the Crockett has a very good reputation and most people love them...

    My collection

First time I've seen a pistol made out of a stick !! Impressive collection. . . As for the original post, as a LH shooter, I'd like to see close up pics of that LH rifle.

    Building a Lancaster Rifle

I have been watching your Southern build on Youtube . . . very helpful . . I have built two kits, a TVM and Chambers, with a coach . . he says my next step is to learn from a blank. . and I've chosen a Southern. Your video has been VERY helpful education . . though I'm intimidated by it some...

L/H Tennessee 32 Flint rifle build

Thanks . . . Love fired blue screws . . So, with that treatment, in person, does it look rust brown or more of a chocolate dark brown? I'd like to get near a black, but I am not sure I'd want to go so far as to boil a barrel in distilled water to get it.

L/H Tennessee 32 Flint rifle build

What finish did you use on the butt plate, barrel etc? It looks darker than just a brown . . . I like it . . it's the color I want on my upcoming southern build. I'm looking for more black than brown.

L/H Tennessee 32 Flint rifle build

Nice to see this . . I hope to build a Southern Rifle this summer . .. Do not have blank or barrel, but have purchased the sights, butt plate and bean style trigger guard and trigger . . I too have a LH manton lock, which is why I liked seeing these pics.
