    58 CVA Hawken

That thing with going to full **** only when triggers set is due to the sear sitting too low compared to the triggers. Basically the triggers unset are sitting high enough that they bear on the sear holding it out of position so it cannot engage the tumbler. If you know what you are doing then...

    Flintlock Touch Hole

You just drill it out with an ordinary drill bit. The hard part is size. Muskets were slightly larger as this makes for better reliability. I honestly cannot recall the size I used on mine but I think it was about 1.5mm

Please enlighten me on this beasty - English 12bore smooth rifle

Thank you all. That makes a lot of sense. Looks like it could have been a bank gun depending on what that thing missing (maybe a trunnion or swivel) from the forend is. Either way a bit rich for a single barrel shotty.

Please enlighten me on this beasty - English 12bore smooth rifle

Yeah I know it is not an elephant gun but it sure ain't a regular fowler. I am leaning toward maybe for tigers. 72 RB with a heavy charge??? I cannot see why anyone would build a shotgun this way unless there was some law that said nothing over 12g and they wanted 2oz or larger loads.

Please enlighten me on this beasty - English 12bore smooth rifle

Described as a very heavy, about 7 kgs, unmarked longarm. A genuine antique. The sighted, octagonal to round, smoothbore Damascus, .71 calibre barrel, measures 39 inches. The whole arm measures 55 inches. The massive breech, with an appropriate sized bolster, has a width of just over 1 ¾ inches...

That area is not under stress. The wood just keeps things compartmentalised there. If yuo are worries just blow some wood glue into them and leave.

    Investarms Gemmer Hawken

Not what you asked but if you think the Mortimer is too heavy then I think you will find the same with any Hawken.

Building a hawken from a kit.

I doubt you have anything to worry about as far as inletting. What about lining up components for drilling and how is your filework? Personally I think if you do your homework. Take a good look at Bill Raby's videos and you should be good to go. At the end of the day is this a risk you wish to...
