What is it that pulls us into muzzle loading!

I got interested when a Marine Corps friend got a cap lock of his dad's shooting in 1971. Mike and I shot informally in that NC swamp for a while before we both got transferred. I transferred to Camp Del Mar where I bought a .45 Numrich Arms swivel breech. After leaving the USMC I moved to Ohio...

How do you like your horns?

My favorites are simple, curved and have some folk art on them; although I love a double curved horn. I don't hold with many people's idea of a right hand carry; however. I go with what I learned from Roland Cadle back in the 1970's. A right hand horn comes from the right side of the animal's...

Crazy Crow non iron "Iron" cookware?

The only place that makes (wrought) iron anymore was Sweden . Mild steel is usually used today for these type of items. If you're not happy send back what you can, look in second hand sores for what you need, but most of those are items will be aluminum. If you want mild cookware especially a...

Missing wood between barrel channel and lock inset a problem?

Not unusual, or a problem as long as the bolster of the lock is flush with the barrel flat.

    My Recent Rifle Build

Beautiful work especially the repair and carving. Being right handed it is hard to visualize working on a left hand flintlock , but since my younger grandson is a southpaw I may have to!

Flint works loose after multiple shots

The leather is too thick. Cut a notch at the the bend of a thinner leather so that a thinner flint rests against the jaw screw. Select thinner flints. I pick out mine at events or Log Cabin Sport Shop.

CLOSED Kibler Colonial just finished. $2100.00 shipped . Reduced price

I said it was " very nice". What's not good about that? That is no way critical unless you are a super sensitive individual. If you can't sand, and stain wood; and finish the metal then pay the asking price for a pretty piece of wood and the assemblers time. Also you are paying twice for...

    Only one gun allowed!

A flintlock smoothbore rifle or fowler in .58 or .62 cal would be my choice for hunting and reenacting.

    My first powder horn.

You did a great job, especially since it's your first powderhorn. Some horns did have threaded knobs in the butt cap . Usually you see that with larger ones associated with cannons.

    Doglock questions

I have a repro of a Miroku French 1763 lock converted to a doglock by Jim Everett. The **** had a "spur" welded to it. A dog was formed of steel and screwed to the lockplate to interact with and hold the ****. It also retains the half **** notch on the tumbler.

    Blackfoot Warrior Photo

Pontiac in the 1750's admonished his warriors for getting "stoned" smoking kinickinic (sp?) .

    Kibler Fowler

Of course Jim plans on a Hawken next which may be a percussion. At the open house they displayed a Colonial rifle that had been converted to percussion. Where there's a will there's a way.
