    Shipping used powder horns question.

I recently purchased a 3.5" flask for a pocket revolver off ebay and it came thru the mail full of 4f. So no sniffer I guess.

That looks to be a very fine example of a sharps....nice score!

    NIB Garret Sharps Carbine

As I understand it those are the most desirable repro aside from the Shiloh sharps....

    Sharps gas check plate!

I aquired my IAB recently and found that it had a warped gas check plate and the "sleeve" face was not square. So I took a file to the breech face, trued it up and honed the gas check flat on a granite plate. I also ground the back of the plate down by .030 to accomodate the o-ring. This...

    Sharps gas check plate!

I'm pondering the actual mechanics of the gas check plate. I suspect the gas check plate is forced shut under pressure in s similar manner as a dump valve; equal pressure on both sides of a valve diaphragm....bleed off pressure on one side and wham, the dump valve opens. In the instance of the...

    Yet another Woodsrunner!

More to the point....I think the color from the alcohol stains would be nice opposed to the dark results from nitrate.

    Yet another Woodsrunner!

I think my next build, if ever, wont use the iron nitrate. It came out darker than I imagined it would.

    Yet another Woodsrunner!

This quote came to mind shortly after the broken stock: Cameron Frye: “Ferris, my father loves this car more than life itself.” Ferris Bueller: “A man with priorities so far out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine automobile.” it brought some clarity to the moment...

    Yet another Woodsrunner!

I was at a loss for words at the time.

    Yet another Woodsrunner!

One other thing...my iron nitrate treatment really required neutralization. I had rust forming on lock and barrel while in the white. Boiling water with ammonia solved the issue nicely. However doing so ensured I had to keep the barrel and stock together to negate the warping. Thanks for the...

    Yet another Woodsrunner!

I, like so many others, have completed my first Kibler. It's a Woodsrunner 54 in fancy maple. I'd like to thank Mr. Kibler for his work bringing these affordable and fantastic kits to market. Now realistically it took about 3 hours to assemble it ramrod and all. The lengthy 13 month bit about...

Help with ID on this Target rifle

There is a book by Jeff Baron covering the building of several types of under hammer locks. Your sample looks similar to a Billinghurst (or Ingrham) pattern lock save for the trigger guard which functions as the hammer spring. Given that this book is aimed at the "build your own" crowd the...

Interesting day in the antique shop....

On one side down near the driver tip there is evidence of a crack having formed.

Interesting day in the antique shop....

So a turn screw it is! I found a few extra rws caps in the box that were longer than a typical cap by maybe .030, enough so that they wont function thru the capper. I used them (3) to test the pistol and they didnt fragment even...of course the charge was only 10 grains. Is there a size...

Interesting day in the antique shop....

I was digging for goodies at an antique place....you never know what you're going to run across. I found a Lyman #55 powder thrower and saw a little powder horn with the price obscured. After paying for the Lyman #55 I asked about seeing the horn and the purveyor said he had a box in the back...

Oh, Come On With the Inflated Caps!!

Just out of curiosity....those 3d printed caps; are they filament or resin?

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I tore my Kibler Woodsrunner down for the umpteenth time. So it's sitting there at parade rest and I noticed that it's next to another smoker of shall we say lesser lineage. It struck me as funny.....two items from opposite ends of the spectrum.

    24 Uberti 1862 Police unpack

Thats neat, I got those same three 1860, 61 and 62. from midway. The 60 fluted and 61 "london" are perfect...the 62 was acceptable if not slightly rough tuning wise OOB. I figure the smaller size required extra time to run in but it did smooth out.
