    TC Patriot loading stand ?

Thanks for the link necchi. I bought my Patriot at a gun show and there was no pamphlet with the sale. The set trigger difference between TC rifles and the Patriot is important to know.

    TC Patriot loading stand ?

Thanks for the discussion regarding using a loading stand for these single shot pistols. I had not considered the stress put on the stock during the tamping process! I am considering building a combo stand that would fit both my Lyman .54 and a .50 CVA Mountain pistol. I will still build it and...

    Stuck cleaning brush

I had a similar issue with a 50 cal CVA mountain pistol where all things brass detached from the rod, end cap and brush. I placed epoxy glue on the end of the rod and carefully inserted the rod into the brass. (I practiced quite a few times so I knew exactly where everything was down the barrel)...

thanks for sharing this photo of Heston and Kieth in costume.

    1861 Enfield Musketoon accuracy problem.

I had a similar problem with a PH 2 band rifle that I purchased in late seventies. I got a heckuva deal on it and discovered why… the rear sight was attached off center. A gunsmith in Gresham OR corrected the problem and did a beautiful job of rebluing the barrel. You might check if the same...

Mountain Men movie Short muzzle loaders?

I enjoyed that movie when I first saw it years ago. I'll have to go back and watch it again to understand the discussion about authenticity of the firearms. But I was new to the muzzle loader adventure back then. My big takeaway of the movie was that Heston and Kieth had a lot of fun making this...

1851 Navy and a hammer: life lesson

Last year I discovered a Pietta 1851 .36 in Old West factory patina in the display case at my local Cabelas. I hefted it it....I had to have it, I like it for the same reasons you described. I'll put up with the obnoxious billboard advertising/warnings on either side of the barrel. I am...

    Books about the Fur Trade

Excellent! Congratulations and enjoy your time reading! Keep those covers on the books; in a weak moment I removed them about 15 years ago so I could at least read the spines and show what was on the shelf. The covers reminded me of having to cover our schoolbooks when they were checked out to...

    Books about the Fur Trade

I agree with you about Hafen’s volumes. I started reading them 35 yrs ago but kids, work, and life interrupted. Retirement is just around the corner and I’ll release any moths residing within then.

    Noob issues

I also have a TC Hawken that I built in the mid-70s when I should have been paying more attention to college studies, but perhaps that is a story for another time. Through the years I played around with different balls and bullets and loads and patches ad nauseum, but finally settled down to the...

a question for those who own a traditions kentucky flintlock rifle

No, I use either Remington or CCI #11. Long ago, probably back in the late 70s , I swapped out the original nipple of my TC .50 for I think was an Uncle Mike’s replacement. That improved ignition tremendously but to this day, when hunting, I drop a bit of 3F beneath to improve the odds.

a question for those who own a traditions kentucky flintlock rifle

Thanks for this discussion. These are aspects of fIintlocks that I never considered. I have been muzzle loading for nearly 50 years and still use those ‘cap thingies’, but my curiosity is being rattled here and perhaps it’s time to ‘graduate’ to the basics.
