More grouse with the .62 smoothbore

The plan today was to head up high and look for blue grouse. On the way to my destination I was running into spruce grouse. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth I wound up getting a limit of three birds well before I got close to where I planned to hunt. A bird in the hand... :thumb:

    Excessive Caliber Syndrome (ECS)

I should add that out of the small range I have, I only cast for the .54 and .62 calibers. I have a typical block mold for the .54 but the bag mold from Callahan sees more use. I'm thinking about ordering a .550 mold from him for my .56 smoothbores. Casting .54 over a camp fire. I used...

    Excessive Caliber Syndrome (ECS)

I thought I had a decent range with .32, .54, .56, .58 and .62 calibers. I see now that my caliber range is tiny. :thumb:

    First bag from scratch.

Nice work @David Dalton! Most of us are our own worse critics and only focus on mistakes that others wouldn't notice. I hope the bag serves you well.

If T/C Would Have Made a Northwest Trade Gun...

Thank you @Notchy Bob! Great pic and info! That's interesting. Even though none of my gear is historically accurate I love playing with it. This is a great book on trade guns if anyone is looking for more info on them. The article Smoothbores on the Frontier by Charles E. Hanson Jr in The...

A pic I took yesterday paying tribute to one of my favorite movies. :thumb:

    Classic muzzleloader photos.

I've been having some fun taking "selfies" on the last couple grouse hunts. Not wearing historically accurate clothing/gear at all, just the clothing I usually wear in fall and winter. Black and white just seemed appropriate for the pics.

The Adventures of Captain Bonneville, USA...

I meant to post this under Primary Documentation. I've had this book in my collection for years but never got around to reading it. Since his rank was listed in the title I had assumed it was associated with a military campaign (nothing wrong with that, I usually prefer reading journals of...

A 'Shoe and a Blue with the Good Old .62

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with the tin setup so far. I did remove the lid from the small tin and put it beneath it with a few nitro cards between the two. That made it high enough to keep the cards in place. I agree. I tend to go to my favorite spots all the time, ignoring some potentially...

A 'Shoe and a Blue with the Good Old .62

Thank you! As much as I like using a patched round ball, I am enjoying using shot. :thumb:

A 'Shoe and a Blue with the Good Old .62

I headed out late this afternoon with my .62 cal smoothbore Renegade. I had a spot in mind that I wanted to hunt but when I got there a vehicle was parked at that spot. Its archery season here so there are more people than usual in the woods. As much as I wanted to hunt there, I don't want to...

If T/C Would Have Made a Northwest Trade Gun...

I wish my .56SB's had the Hunter single trigger setup. Both are double trigger with the T/C trigger guard. Here they are next to the .62 before I "purdied" it up. The extra barrel is another .56SB. I'd like to find a T/C flint breech plug for it. I've thought about having it bored out to a .62...
