    Hole punch

Hole saws. With the teeth ground off at an angle. Either use it by itself and whack it with a dead blow hammer or mount it on an arbor without the drill bit and use your drill. A little practice and you can keep it from walking on ya and you can cut through a a good tack of felt, cloth, leather...

opinions of best twist rate for 45

The main determining factor for twist rate is the length of the projectile, somewhat in relation to its diameter. The longer it is, the faster it needs to rotate in order to stabilize. Do a search for the Greenhill Formula for a more in depth explanation.

    I'm happy with that...

Was gifted some .445 round balls a while back. Now my Douglas barrel LIKES .445 but it's lock has developed further problems. The Tennessee Mt rifle has a slighlty "narrower" barrel but I also got a hold of some thinner ticking and thought I'd give it a try. First round went down pretty stiff...

    Can’t find a rifle!

As soon as I saw "Sitting Fox" I thought "Another victim". I too fell for this a while back on a Jaeger kit. It took the threat of legal action to get my $$ back.

FOR SALE Buyer beware Reloading Depot

That name rang a bell, Alarm Bell. I seem to recall this outfit popping up back during the severe shortages and they always had stock. Even items manufacturers weren't producing - Hodgdon 4895 for example, which they still aren't making. Primers and the like. If Brownells, BPS, large regional...

What to do with pan primer?

I'm usually wearing jeans at the range so, if I am using one of the skinny brass ones, it goes in the watch pocket, spout up. I don't tuck my button up shirt in so it's covered. I'll sometimes use a smaller horn or 90% of the time I just prime with the same powder and horn as my main charge.

How do you load your fowler?

Oddly enough, one of the best performing loads I've had I came upon by forgetfulness I guess one could say. Had a commitment cancel so I had some time. Grabbed my Rob Miller 62 cal and headed to the range. Well my shooting bag was mostly set up for 45 rifle and I didn't have wadding and such. So...

    Starting fires with patches

Yep. That's an old welders technique. Make a "Super Saturated" mix of water and borax, soak your clothing item in that and let it dry. It will not sustain an ember on it's own. The effect even survives a wash or two to some extent.

Lee “rifling engraved at loading” bullet

I have the .45 200 grain mold. Haven't really worked up a load for them yet but the few I have shot seemed to perform about as well as the round balls I was shooting. I haven't tried a wad in between powder and bullet yet. I did lube the bullet with beeswax/oil. I will note that mine are coming...

whats your favorite part of muzzleloading, what keeps you hooked?

Of course there is the history. I also enjoy the hands on experience - making the stuff yourself, from propellent, to projectile, to the weapon itself. Then if the "Stuff" ever really did hit the fan in a bad way, conventional weaponry will eventually run very short or out of supplies. With a...

.32 caliber frustrations with not grouping.

Your sample size is way too small. Given the vagarities inherent in ball diameter, patch thickness, even the lube effectiveness, you got to shoot a lot more than 3 rounds of each combination. Throw in environmental factors - wind, temp, humidity, and you need to do even more.

    WORST DAY AT THE RANGE!

I'm not so sure I would want someone that stupid on my range. If he jumped your stuff at 25 grains and lied/gaslit ya with the"Bylaws", what's he gonna do when someone shoots their Fowler with 100 grains or more. If it ain't a public range refund his fees and send him on his miserable, ignorant way.

Right hand or left hand shooter? 🤔

    1. You gotta lose that caring if they look at ya. 2. LOTS of competition shooters use blinders of one type or another, so it ain't nothin' strange. 3. Go ahead and work on shooting "Left Eyed", you may become an ambidextrous shooter! Something I could never do with the weirdness of how my left...

Crazy Crow non iron "Iron" cookware?

Probably high carbon steel. That could be period correct for your reenacting activities and is touted as good cookware along side cast. Still, you didn't get what was advertised and they ethically should accept a return regardless if you have "altered" it simply by trying to wash that sticky...

    Grease hole

One of my 45's has one. Haven't decided if I am ever gonna use it for it's intended purpose though. I'd want an awful stiff recipe for the summer months, then have to scrape it out for the winter,

Mike Beliveau injured in fall, doing OK.

Dang. I always enjoy his videos. That must have been one heck of a fall given the extent of his injuries, He'll be out of the shooting for a bit till that heals up right. Hopefully he'll be able to subject vids on other aspects of our obsession, err, I mean hobby, in the mean time while he is...
