    Converting reproduction to Percussion

For my Investarms flint to percussion conversion, I used the Lyman (Investarms) flint lock and took a die grinder to the pan till it both fit and supported the drum. Removed the frizen and spring. Worked like a charm. The used the RPL flint lock as the lock of choice for when I converted back to...

    Wet aging game meat

For many years up here moose was a staple, more of a harvest than a hunt. When I started you could buy a tag for $10 and any moose was legal, then it progressed to general bull and draw cow, now its all draw and very restricted. Bull elk is still general in my area of hunting but cows are draw...

I wonder how many folks eat marrow anymore with the CWD explosion? Our provincial govt recommends not cutting bone in known CWD areas. Walk

    Problems with Flint & Steel

I use dryer lint, punk wood, old worn cotton. It dont matter to me as I strike into my tin (altoids tin) then remove whatever piece has the best spark, then close the lid. My little vent hole never gets plugged, ever, and it extinguishes all remaining sparks once the lid is closed. Just remember...

    History of hunting from trees

Natural forest fires were obviously left to burn, creating habitat and regrowth. We only fight them due to insurance payouts and logging companies. Walk

    Problems with Flint & Steel

My opinion, try not to pack your tin so full. Also once your bbq is warm, put the tin on the burner/bricks and not on the grill itself (I remove the grill before starting). Should only take 20 minutes(ish). Never really timed it. Walk

    History of hunting from trees

Hanshi, I’ve had loggers tell me that moose seem to be attracted to chainsaws. Not really sure about that, especially since I've probably spent the equivalent of 2 years or so in outfitter tents and collected umpteen hundreds of chords of firewood for those tents, or my stove at home while in...

    .45 cal deer loads

I think some folks need remember that not all areas are the same when it comes to body size on deer. I’ve never been but from observation it appears a S. Texas mature whitetail buck is quite small compared to a N. Alberta mature buck. I shot one that weighed in (gutted, skinned and headless, or...
