    50 vs. 54

If your goal is hunting with PRB then I recommend the .54. If it’s more so targets and a little deer hunting, then definitely get the .50. You’ll use less powder for a real accurate target load as well. Walk

Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

Spoken like a truly uneducated shooter. Black powder cannot be shipped everywhere, unless your little world is all you live in. As well black powder is over double the price of Pyrodex in my area. Lastly, some people like Pyrodex, thus no reason to buy real black. Sorry bud. Walk

T/C Penn Hunter Carbine bore obstruction

I suspect that the bore was drilled for touchhole, then threaded for a liner install but the burr from drilling and tapping was never removed from within the bore. Walk

Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

So…. I’ll speak for myself, and likely many others, when it comes to Pyrodex. I started shooting Pyro RS in the 90’s. Absolutely zero issues. In the mid 2000’s I switched to 2fg Black. Myself and a buddy split a case, to which he still has a couple lbs left. I had purchased a GPR .50 flint kit...

    Double dose.

When I had my Pedersoli .45 Kentucky percussion I tried 4f in my load development. Found 3f being the best. Walk

    Prepping for Squirrel Season

Terry Eddings? Fiddlesticks?? I’m trying to get this old chemo riddled brain in gear. Fiddlesticks was an inspiration and I loved his posts, stories and way with words. Walk

    Double dose.

Shooting partner on our BP trail last time out double loaded his powder (60gr 3fg=120 gr) and upon seating his ball the RR told us what to expect. He reported that it was a “noticeable” recoil. Lol In my youth I tried double balling my TC as a few pocket books claimed their characters did...

    Removing a TC breech plug

Just unscrew the cleaning rod and trickle powder in the touchhole. Shoot it out. Walk

    The .50 Caliber Rifle

From my experience, a .50 Maxiball, 370gr driven by 90gr Pyro P will easily punch through a broadside bull elk at 26 paces! As I am also sure the same results with a PRB. Walk

    The did you ever thread......

Shoot my ramrod? Yes, after it broke off in the bore while trying to seat a too tight patch/ball combo. Couldn’t get it back out. Dry ball a load? Far too many times to count. Sigh… Will post more once I remember more. Walk

    Camo or Traditional for hunting

Up here in AB there are no requirements. I wear camo just because I have it for waterfowl and it is comfortable. I do wear an orange vest over, orange toque on my head and if cold I have an insulated orange heavy jacket (left over from the days when it was required). I’d rather not take chances...

I just use oil. Always pull and clean my nipple, and never tighten it down. Just a light snug. Walk
