    Left hand threaded drum/bolster

That makes sense, I can see how it would not loosen as the nipple was off center to the rear a tiny bit in the direction that blows would act to tighten it. An odd configuration, the part was zinc plated and at first glance would appear die-cast, the old ads for the pistol state it has a...

    Left hand threaded drum/bolster

I was working on an Euroarms of America, Winchester ,Va, kentuckian pistol barrel in percussion. An NOS barrel that had an odd bolster /drum that I wanted to replace with a standard drum or touch hole liner. I tried removing it as usual, no rust involved and it snapped off. I just now drilled it...

    Who can relate

My work area takes on that look. I have to stop and re-group every so often. What took you 2 weeks may only take me 2 hours...lol especially when doing multiple tasks in the same area even if on one project. Loss of small parts is always an issue with the organized mess method.

    Solved the percussion cap issue.

I think you could sell a boat load of your die set. I am in for N0. 11 set when made. Main reason I dont make my own caps is because 1) I have 2000 on hand. 2) the caps I see being homemade look like they will fall off easily. The main reason I seldom shoot my percussion stuff is 1) I maintain...

    Toilet bowl cleaner

The works is not something I would use for a bore. If it was heavily rusted, to see what is left, Phosphoric acid is a good way to remove every trace of rust. Coke has it to add tanginess. Hydrochloric acid works much faster than phosphoric but every bit of it will have to be removed and it is...

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

For a time, all I had were a CVA .45 Kentucky percussion rifle and a modern pump shotgun. I took many whitetail deer with that CVA with both RB and maxi balls which I ordered from DGW and at that time they came in a cloth bag. At ranges under 100 yards. I did wound one but there was snow so I...

    trigger guard

Target pistol bult from various parts. I cannot hold this comfortably at all. I bought the trigger guard it was a sand cast piece, and it looks great but my finger wont fit. Womans finger fits just fine but it is for me. Thinking of trying to enlarge it. Somehow. Anybody ever do that? Or maybe...

    Black powder or Pyrodex

I have never had issues with pyrodex. I clean right away after shooting. I read in a popular (35 years ago) muzzleloading book that pyrodex fouling is softer and easier to clean than blackpowder fouling. I dont know about that. I do use a dedicated end brush to get the face of the chamber clean.

    Black powder or Pyrodex

Pyrodex works just fine in a caplock arm. Black powder is a must have with a firelock arm. I certainly would not pay $30 for $4 worth of ingredients.

    Two piece full stocks

I have used the same method with an old CVA Kentucky and a miroku sears Kentucky with very good results. On both I cut an end grain spacer, so as to have the grain the same as the pieces and used marine epoxy which I have on hand. I used light brown leather dye as a stain on the Sears gun. You...

    SOLD NICE TC Pre-Seneca .45

Differences I can observe between it and my pre-warning TC Hawken is the breech (tang) has rounded shoulders where it starts into the wood, the wedge plates are plain, lock is plain, Hammer is smaller, cheek piece is squared off rather than rounded, front sight is square rather than an elongated...

    PayPal anti gun?

I was a seller with thousands of sales, then "structured payments" were instituted which you had to set up an account at a bank or some other financial institution. Like what you were selling was not even yours? Yet you are the one doing all the work and a go between acts like it is theirs...

    PayPal anti gun?

PayPal is anti 2nd amendment. However, when eBay illegally forced sellers to only accept PayPal as payment, (they dropped that requirement when a lawsuit against that policy was won in Australia) many who wanted to buy stuff off eBay also had to use it. Funny thing is, many, many gun parts are...

Would you put money into it or leave it alone?

You can make a "lap" for the barrel out of lead pushed through, so it takes to the rifling and follows it then take some type of abrasive compound and smooth the pitting using that lap. I have used valve grinding compound. There are polishing compounds but I don't think it can be that good...

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

September Dawn, a movie about the Mountain Meadows massacre, In 1857. You can see 1858 brass frame Remington revolvers being used. Never made a brass frame nor were they available in 1857.
