    Agree, I use 12x50 binoculars. What really helps is I make my own shot-n-see targets. very cost effective considering what they want at the sporting goods store.

    I just realized 1000 yards is over a half mile! Holy cow that is LONG RANGE! Tomorrow I am going to set my target at 1000 yards and see if I can even see it, should be fun.

    Thanks .36rooster, my rear sight is a screw on type, drop in TC type barrel. All adjustment is done with front sight.

    I understand 100 is not really long rang, but it is as far as I care to attempt a kill shot. 1000 yards? Just how big is the target and how can you even see it ? I would need optics after 300.

    Thanks all, I now know I will not be again shooting 100 grains of 3f anytime soon. My shoulder is not as young as it used to be!

    After reading posts about long range shooting, I thought I would give it a try. This a 3 shot group at 100 yards. Found it most difficult to see the target. Shooting my .54 cap hawken, GM barrel, with 100 grains gfafs 3f, .018 patch, 530 ball. Open sights, not great but I did hit the paper.

    I find no difference in the two, local big box store here, asking 15.99 a tin for magnum. Ask the employee why so much, his answer, they are magnum! Lol. Another store asking 5.95 for cci # 11, just crazy stuff.

    Times are a getting a little tuff, so need to part with my pistol. I built this out of a parts kit from Pecatonica last year. Very good shooter. Bore is pristine. I have about 50 balls thru it. Problem with inletting the lock plate, so improvised with a couple diamonds, npt pc or hc thats...

    Finally decided to sell this horn, it turned out so well I was tempted to not sell it. Anyway, it's 12 inches long, 2 3/8 across the butt, which is cherry. The mid bosy is translucent. Will carry best on the right. 125 shipped.
