Were percussion single shots carried capped?

They might have done it as I do... Capped with a small piece of soft leather over the cap with the hammer resting on it. Can't go off accidentally but when the hammer is cocked the leather falls away. Mine is attached to the trigger guard so it is not lost.

Kibler SMR 40 caliber put through the paces!

Just ordered the Kibler .40..... Looking at Feb! Going to be a difficult wait..... but should be well worth it. Will try your best load first to see how it shoots. Probably end up with twice the powder as you as I am going to be hunting with it... Antelope next year.

Thanksgiving Traditions That People Don't Understand

I buy small sugar pumpkins and cook them down and make “real” pumpkin pies. Never use canned pumpkin!

    Real Sperm Whale Oil?

35+ years ago I bought a 10 oz bottle of the real stuff from White's Buffalo sporting goods. Still have about 1 third of the bottle left. I stack my patches up and saturate them. then I put an ash tray below the jaws of my vise. Then I put the patches in the vise and squeeze them as tight as I...

    wont go bang.

Pour a tablespoon full on a safe surface.. outside the house. Try to light it with a BBQ charcoal lighter. It should go off very quick. Not as quick as real black powder but it should ignite. If not... toss it. If it ignites quickly use it.

    So many idiots on YouTube

Duelist 1954 is by far an away the most knowledgable about just about anything that burns black powder. He backs it up with actually shooting ...on video. Take it to the bank.

    Overpriced sellers

Before the shortages began I attended a gun show here locally and found primers on "Special" for $4 more than what we could buy them uptown at our local gun shops. Never take for granted that a seller at a gun show is the lowest price.

    GPR vs Mountain Rifle

2 years ago I put together a kit of the Great Plains rifle by Lyman. Fantastic rifle. Extremely accurate....54 caliber cap lock. Only downside is... it is quite heavy. Still Highly recommend it!! Picture below.

$11.95 compared to $4.99...... back when I started shooting black powder I purchased a Navy Arms 1851 cap and ball for $25.00 compared to now of $300. Times change. It ain't going back to what it was.

    Hunters Who Are NMLRA Members

Totally agree with your assessment. NMLRA is not perfect but I still prefer it to the other shooting sports where people are rude and winning is everything attitude. Any organization is only as good as "you" make it. Expecting others to bring things up to their expectations is not the correct...

    Keeping Muzzleloading Alive

Yes.. forget about the Boy Scouts. There is an organization that in Wyoming at least is worthy of us getting involved. 4H ! You want to help keep this sport alive contact your nearest 4H leader and ask to volunteer. Many 4H programs have muzzleloading as one of their sports programs. They have...

Need help....Have a cva hawken rifle with ball stuck in it,,,

If you remove the nipple and dribble in some powder to shoot it out. Remember to make sure the stuck ball is against the powder and not half way down the barrel. The ball needs to be as close to the powder as you can possibly get it. No air gap between powder and ball.
