    Another 58 Question

You'd need a faster twist than the usual 45-70 of 1 in 16, but the Win Mag should have a faster twist. I would have thought it would work in that one. Interesting.

    Another 58 Question

I have Lee 45/70 in 340,405 and 500 must to the same results as yourself. I also have the newer 405 with the semi-hollow base. If you don't have that one, I would recommend picking it up.

    Another 58 Question

I agree with you up to a point, but I think the original question was to do with Lee round ball molds, even though it got side tracked (myself included). The only round ball mold I've ever had a problem with was a "bag mold" that actually case oblong bullets. My .58 and .69 minie molds are...

Need Load Recommendations for .58 Smoothbore

I'd pick up some 24 ga wads and shoot shot out of it as well. 75-80 grains FFG and 1/2 to 5/8 oz of shot would make a good rabbit, quail or chucker load.

    Another 58 Question

I have been using Lee products for years and find that the only thing they are less on is price. I have read complaints as to the aluminum blocks wearing out, but I have some Lee moulds that I've owned and used for 40 years.

    Barrel length question

For a smoothbore, I prefer a bit shorter barrel (no longer than 36 inches) especially if I'm shooting buckshot.

What is your favorite era of muzzleloading?

My favorite era of time was the French and Indian War/ Revolutionary War, when the good old flintlock reigned king. Although most of my muzzleloaders are percussion, I still love the flash in the pan from my Brown Bess.

    Black powder shooting`s getting ex-Pen-SIVE!!!

That's because they can't truck it in, they have to haul it in by horseback as the horse doesn't have to show a vax card.;)

How many offhand shots before back pain?

Well, the way I figure it, Biden will get us into a war with Russia and China and the world will nuke itself. Then we won't have to worry, are aches and pains will be gone - unfortunately so will our guns.

Did the US purchase any German Military Muskets?

Interesting that my grandmother always referred to Cottage Cheese as Dutch Cheese.

I think these are probably scarcer than hen's teeth, but does anyone know where or how to find one?

    20 Gauge Plastic Wads?

I suspect the heavily lubed fiber was underneath helped, I just used the plain plastic was, mostly out of a breach loading BP shotgun.

    20 Gauge Plastic Wads?

They work as long as you like spending an hour scrubbing black powder residue mixed with melted plastic out of your bore. Trust me, I learned the hard way😂
