    Hello from Western NY

greetings from the western edge of the Catskills. My parents grew up in Buffalo (still have a couple of cousins there) and we had a camp at Silver Lake near Letchworth until five years ago, so I spent my summers in Wyoming County. My daughter-in-law is from Alleghany. Woody

    Missouri Muzzleloading?

You should find the move very beneficial. My son moved there over a decade ago so I have been visiting the state multiple times per year and find it very friendly in many ways. A few years back, I had flown out and was driving a old truck my son had at the time. He didn't use it much and the...

    Resistance is futile

I too have far more 18th century clothing and items than anyone actually had in the 18th century. I have been accumulating it for over 4 years now in hopes of doing some F&I war and AWI reenacting when I retired. Well I retired in 2020 and due to the craziness I have yet to participate in an...

Bullet Stuck in TC Hawken. HALP

I have found that a rubber tipped blow gun hooked up to my compressor is the easiest way to do this. Percussion, remove the lock and nipple, flintlock, remove the lock. Push the rubber tip against the hole, point the barrel in safe direction and hit the trigger on the blow gun. Most times the...

What would I ask for this?

First, when selling, take better pictures and be aware of shadowing and background contrast. Your current pictures have the rifle in a shadow which makes is more difficult to see the details. Take pictures of the details such as the patch box, lock, frizzen etc. Second, remember that you can...

where do you buy your *original* cap-and-ball revolvers?

While I have not purchased from either of these, I enjoy checking out the auctions at Rock Island Armory (Rock Island, IL) and Ancestry Guns ( Columbia MO) Woody

    Anyone ID this pistol?

Just checked the 2020 Taylors catalog which showed that Pietta was making a 1851 Colt Navy with brass frame, 7.5" barrel in .44

    Anyone ID this pistol?

No, at best it is made to represent a Colt 1851 Navy in non-correct .44 caliber

you don't say just how many bars you have available for sale. The more you have and can fit into a box the more reasonable the shipping is. Thanks Woody

pre-measuring or a better method of measuring for revolver?

For years now I have been using cigarette papers rolled around a 3/8" dowel and then seal one end with a drop of Elmer's glue. When dry, fill with desired amount of powder and twist the end closed. At the range, I can "break" the twisted end on the edge of the cylinder and dump the powder in...

    Muzzleloader shooting distance

Last night on the History Channel, they showed someone duplicating the alleged Timothy Murphy shot at Saratoga. The marksman used a flintlock long rifle (don't remember if they said the caliber) and hit a 55 gallon oil drum at 330 yards. It took him a couple of shots to dial it in but he did it!

    Unfired Muzzleloaders

I have been stung twice purchasing "unfired" flintlocks over the internet. First was a Stoeger made musket of a French pattern. Still not sure what it is meant to present. Seller stated it was unfired and that he did not know much about it. When I received it, it was unfired, because the vent...
