    Flintlocks and Black Powder

Okay I don't have a dog in this fight but I would like to point out that the referenced web page is from Eastern Maine not Swiss and states: Description Recommended for priming powder for flintlock rifles and pistols. And a recommendation is certainly not a statement of fact or anything other...

Taylor vs. cimarron vs. Traditions vs. Pietta?

Two quick things. I just got my Pieta 1858 Remington from Taylors and it came in a paper box. Which is fine because I use a holster not a bag. Also I notice the Pieta prices at Taylors went up considerable . They were a quite a bit less in November when I bought mine.

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

Well for those that are interested I was able to fix my ramrod issues. First I had to take the pipping indent down a little more, because that's where the major blockage was, then I bought a 5/16 in. steel rod and threaded the end about one half inch. I worked this in and out until it cleared...

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

Everyone thank you so much for all the help. But please, please read post #27. As a new note I took the ferrule/ramrod tube and placed it on the slot location of the rifle but upside down so the tab was sticking up. Not down into the slot as it will when installed and it still would not let the...

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

Okay let me explain one more time. I have three ramrods I bought from Kiblers and one I bought from TotW not to mention an delrin one that is now a range rod. All the rods were 5/16in rods. The only one that fix the piping on the stock was the one that came with it. This was before I did...

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

Thanks Dave I finished the rod that came with the rifle and two other rods I purchased from Kibler before. Sanded the other two down stained and tru oiled all three. And everything is fine until I install the ferrule against the stock or even just put the ferrule where it should go. Once in...

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

I had the ferrule clamped to the stock with a vice on my drill press. It was down as far as it can go. And after people said I should redo it with the ramrod in place I removed the pin and tried as they recommended. But like I said with the ferrule in place the ramrod will not go into the tube...

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

And I get that but I'm talking just as it enters the stock right at the ferrule and only when the ferrule is used. Without the ferrule placed at the stock the ramrod goes in no problem, once I place the ferrule in front of the stock's ramrod opening the ramrod will not go in.

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

I'm thinking this is what I'm going to need to do. But to error on the safe side I still think I'll call Jim Monday. I'm just letting the stain rest and will start applying the Tru-oil tomorrow, so there is no rush. But thank you and Deerstalkert and everybody else for your insight.

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

Okay news update for all that are interested and even those who aren't. Well I took the ferrule off, put the ramrod through the two remaining ferrules and slide the "bad" ferrule onto the end of the ramrod with the narrow end cap Jim sent. Nothing, no. not working. It still will not go any...

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

And there in lies my problem. No I just assumed it would all line up perfectly like the rest of the rifle. But we all know what assuming does. Thanks for this bit of insight. I'll fix it this morning. And thank you all for your input some great responses.

    Kibler SMR ramrod issues

I was wondering if anyone else has issues with the ramrod holes on their SMR? I purchased two additional rods from Kibler and had to sand them down a lot to get them to work with m SMR. But once I put the ramrod ferrule on the rifle I now can't get the rod to go into the hole bored in the stock...

    any info on Ammo-Store

I found this place on line and they have caps, supposedly. But they only take Zelle, Google Pay or Apple Pay. Not sure if I should be doing business with them. But they are in Texas. Any one have any info on them?

    1861 Navy

I can understand that. You like Uberti’s and I wouldn’t mind going that route if they were in stock but they aren’t. The Pietta’s are in stock and I don’t care if they have writing on the barrels I’m not trying to pass it off as a colt. I care if it shoots well. And the 1851 navy pietta I have...

    1861 Navy

Okay I guess I can deal with an extra 1/2 inch. It's not like I really care if it's truly authentic just reasonably so. And I just have a lot of faith in Pietta.
