Use a brass punch or brass hammer and tap the edges of the dovetail to roll them inward slightly to tighten the dovetail

The other thing that I forgot to mention.......Nipples! Ok I said it! LOL honestly buy some Treso nipples and shoot them and dry fire them a FEW times. This will help them take shape, to be at the correct angle to the hammer. As they wear, take one out, lock it in a drill chuck and spin a slight...

A guy named Rob Lewis in Ohio 513-897-2852 he has a booth at the N-SSA nationals. He did my last 2 revolvers. He will also check the crown and dress them if needed. None of this is really that hard to do yourself, heck I use most of it till I lost my tools in a move, Rather than buy all the...

Well its been a while since I did my revolvers so I dont remember any of the measurements but here is what I did to all mine. Ream all the cylinders to be over the bore size chamfer the cylinder mouths so that balls are swaged and no lead ring is cut off. recut the forcing cone so that half the...

How short of a barrel makes sense?

Shortest barrel I have on a muzzleloader is an original Austrian Fruhwirth Carbine. 73 caliber with a 13 inch rifled barrel. but its a real blast to shoot! next shortest is the I have is a CS Richmond Carbine also rifled but in 58 with a 25 inch barrel.

    Fayetteville Rifle

Ive taken deer with mine at 100 yards with just 45 grains of 3F. Its the same load I use in N-SSA competition. Yer group size will let you know the amount of powder the musket needs then adjust sights to the load. Best way to get yer minie balls is to cast them yerself. Buy a mold from Lee...

    Fayetteville Rifle

Yer gonna have to measure the bore and size yer minie balls 1-2 thousandths under. Use a 500-520 grain minie ball and start with about 40-45 grains of 3F and work yer way up to find the tightest group.

    beeswax and olive oil lube,

50/50 beeswax and olive oil is a good starting point. make up a small batch and let it cool (harden) see how you like it. If its to hard take some out, add more olive oil and just re-melt it, let it cool and test. if its to soft for you, take some out and add more beeswax! its pretty hard to...

    Beeswax and Olive Oil

Ever notice the "I" in Crisco has a flame over it??? people have been making candles from Crisco for years, and no they dont smell or smoke. however, they must be made in a jar or can.

    Beeswax and Olive Oil

speaking of fire, if you put crisco in a can, jar or cup and add a wick it makes a great candle that will last for days

    Dream Reproductions

Ive seem them and they look very nice!! but not Civil War correct. Ive also cut down an 1855 Springfield musket to rifle length and converted an 1841 Mississippi to a Harpers Ferry conversion

    Dream Reproductions

Unfortunately nobody makes the US 1847 musketoon. Its lock is bigger than the 1841 and smaller than the 1842. I could cut down a 1842 to make it look like a 47 but it wouldnt be correct. But I could cut a 42 down and make a Macon Armory 2 bander which would be fun, but still not as small and...

Toilet rings haven't been made from beeswax in years, they are all petroleum and urethane wax now.

    Beeswax and Olive Oil

I use old musket cap tins, fill half with sweet oil, ad a few chunks of beeswax till the oil level is just below the top of the tin, then heat it. As the oil warms up it will melt the beeswax. A cast iron pan is perfect for holding the can off the LOW flame and acts like a "hot plate" it can...

    Beeswax and Olive Oil

I just use a cast iron frying pan! no need to over complicate it. -Take an empty tin and fill half with sweet oil, then put in beeswax till its full. Place the tin on a cast iron pan and heat over a low flame. As the oil heats up, it melts the wax. When the wax is melted remove it from the...
