Lead or Leather to hold the flint

An idea I am tryi g this too see how it works. I wet some leather strips that hold the flint. Wrapped the leather around the flint, while it was wet, and wrapped a piece of waxed thread around it to help comfort around the leather. My idea was faster changing of flints when need be. Thoughts? Home Made Percussion Caps Review

Great article. I agree completely. I would cut up soda cans and cut them into strips. And away I went. Lol The powder mix was great and worked fine. Minus the human error. Where I had issues was finding something small to put the power in. My hands aren't as steady as they use to be. Yes a...

    Cleaning between shots

I have been messing around with bp since the 70s. Didn't shoot for many years due to my brain telling me that the 45 cva Kentucky long rifle, dad and I built in the 70s, was probably not safe to shoot. When I joined my Rendezvou group, we have a monthly shoot, last Saturday of each month. I...

My 3 Top CVA 45 Kentucky long rifle. Traditions 50 Hawken. 50 cal colonial flintlock, kibler kit. Nevermind the rubber band around the strap. It's for testing the length before I cut it and put a buckle in it.

    Bore Butter ingredients

Since the 70s when my dad and I built my first CVA 45 cal Kentucky long rifle. I have always used Dawn and hot water. Scrub it with a brass brush. Run patches through it until they are clean. More brushing if necessary. More patches. Until dry and clean, I use triple 7. Cleans a lot easier...

New Builder - Kibler Colonial Long Rifle Kit

I took mine to the gunsmith, he got it fixed and it works well, only issue, due to operator error, not enough flash powder. Primer tube was emptier than I thought. Refilled that with a small horn of 4F and the fire stick went boom again.

    CLOSED #11 percussion cap maker

I bought one of these, they work fine. It's hard to get the same amount of powder in each cap. Real cheap to make, I used soda cans. And works fine as a backup.
