    Finished My Woodsrunner (Sort of)

    Thank you very much!

    Finished My Woodsrunner (Sort of)

Thank you both very much! Definitely wanted a little carving, but kept it simple as a style choice and staying within my "first timer" skills.

    Finished My Woodsrunner (Sort of)

Thanks! I really tend to prefer the more simple carving. It's a hunting rifle to me, so I kept it simple but personal.

    Finished My Woodsrunner (Sort of)

Thank you all very much! I'm very happy with how it's turned out. Very impressed with the barrel as well. Probably put 20-30 shots through it last Saturday without a single swab and there was no noticeable increase in difficulty to load and cleanup was a breeze! This weekend will be some more...

    Finished My Woodsrunner (Sort of)

Well, I finished my woodsrunner apart from the lock. Still undecided what I want to do with the lock, but I'm leaning towards a polish and some light border engraving. This is the second rifle I've built (both Kiblers) and the first time I've ever carved any wood.

    Progress on my Kibler Woodsrunner

Looking good! Great color on that stock!

Getting a flat/no shine milk chocolate on standard maple?

I'm not sure exactly the color you are looking for, but this rifle I finished with aquafortis and then tannic acid rubbed back with scotchbrite. Then 3-4 coats of Tried & True. It will shine when wiped down with an oil, but most of the time is fairly dull.

    Fiebings leather dye

They are not lined, just a simple leather gauntlet I have for a medieval reenactment getup, fairly thin leather. They were pretty cheap, so I think I'll just clean them up like you said and give it a go!

    Fiebings leather dye

I don't want to totally hijack this thread, but there seems to be a lot of people in here with Fiebing's knowledge... I have some black Fiebing's and am planning to re-dye a pair of dyed brown leather gloves. Do I need to do anything with the gloves before applying the black? Or can I just dye...

    I must do this wrong

Thank you! I should also say, the AF I used was the kind that used to be sold by Jim Kibler. I believe he still sells it and it will likely be what I use on the rifle I am currently building.

    I must do this wrong

In my experience with Aquafortis, if it is that dark/black, you are heating too much. When I did it, I "toasted" it to a reddish brown. I also did two coats of it on a rifle I previously built. If the AF is green, then you haven't heated it enough. This previous rifle I built had two coats of...

SOLD (SPF) Kibler Colonial .50, $1400

Thank you all again for the kind words, and I'm sure when I complete my Woodsrunner I will post some pictures on here!

SOLD (SPF) Kibler Colonial .50, $1400

Thank you, Gentlemen! I honestly hate to see it go, but I just don't have the funds at the moment to justify having two rifles so similar!

SOLD (SPF) Kibler Colonial .50, $1400

No, I actually used two coats of aquafortis, and then the tannic acid from kibler over it. I rubbed back the tannic acid with some oil and a fine scotchbrite pad, so the black is remnants of the tannic. Then it was all finished with 4 coats of tried & true.

SOLD (SPF) Kibler Colonial .50, $1400

I have a Kibler Colonial rifle in .50 caliber for sale here. I acquired this kit partially finished and completed it myself. I believe it is one of the earlier Colonial kits. I'm fairly certain it is the standard grade maple stock, though as you can see, it shows some pretty nice figure. The...
